Review: Love You More by Lisa Gardner

Love You More is the fifth book in the D D Warren series by Lisa Gardner and a Thriller from Bantam.

Book Blurb:

WHO DO YOU LOVE?

One question, a split-second decision, and Brian Darby lies dead on the kitchen floor. His wife, state police trooper Tessa Leoni, claims to have shot him in self-defense, and bears the bruises to back up her tale. For veteran detective D. D. Warren it should be an open-and-shut case. But where is their six-year-old daughter?

AND HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO . . .

As the homicide investigation ratchets into a frantic statewide search for a missing child, D. D. Warren must partner with former lover Bobby Dodge to break through the blue wall of police brotherhood, seeking to understand the inner workings of a trooper's mind while also unearthing family secrets. Would a trained police officer truly shoot her own husband? And would a mother harm her own child?

. . . TO SAVE HER?

For Tessa Leoni, the worst has not yet happened. She is walking a tightrope, with nowhere to turn, no one to trust, as the clock ticks down to a terrifying deadline. She has one goal in sight, and she will use every ounce of her training, every trick at her disposal, to do what must be done. No sacrifice is too great, no action unthinkable. A mother knows who she loves. And all others will be made to pay.

My thoughts:

Tessa Leoni did not have the most stable childhood.  Her mother suffered with depression, her father was a work alcoholic as well as an alcoholic.  Tessa was left to fend for herself.

When an accident at the age of sixteen forces her from her home - Tessa begins to spiral out of control.  When she finds out she is pregnant - that changes everything.

Determined to make something of her life - and provide a better life for her child - Tessa decides to become a state police trooper.  And she has never looked back.

Tessa has been a state trooper for four years now, her daughter is six years old and they have made a life with Brian Darby - who, despite his shortcomings - loves Tessa and her daughter very much.

Tessa spent twenty-five weeks training to become a state trooper - and she will need to use every bit of that training to overcome the hardest challenge of her life: finding her daughter - before it’s too late.

Love You More is the first book I have read in the D. D. Warren series and I absolutely loved it.

Fast paced and exciting, Love You More kept me turning the pages for more.

I really enjoyed the character Tessa Leoni and I can see a spin off series focusing on her.  She is tough, smart and no-nonsense, very capable of handling herself - I would love to read more about her.

I give Love You More 5 out of 5 stars.

That good, huh, I wish I read thrillers now, but they just do not do anything for me for some reason

B,

At one time all I read were legal thrillers. :) Then I kinda burned out on them and moved on to something else. Now I like a cozy mystery or thriller every now and again, just to change things up. And honestly, this was a really great read. :)

Estella,

This book kept me guessing. I would think I had it figured out and them - nope, something else would happen. Then I think I had it figured out again and the same thing would happen. LOL I was surprised right up until the end of the book. :) That's a good read for me.
