WoW: Black Moon by J D Tyler

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post started by Breaking the Spine to showcase books we are patiently awaiting.

My WoW for the week:

A group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers combating the greatest dangers in the world. But sometime those dangers are more intimate than they bargained for...

Ever since he saved Dr. Mackenzie Grant's life, panther shifter and sorcerer Kalen Black has had trouble keeping the beautiful doctor out of his thoughts, and his heart. The brush with death awakened an intense passion between them--one that for the first time had the notorious loner letting down his guard.

With the Alpha Pack battling an evil Fae who is slowly gaining control over Kalen's mind, Kalen can no longer trust his own actions, and he breaks off his affair with Mackenzie in order to keep her safe. But when Mackenzie learns that she is carrying Kalen's child, no amount of danger will keep her away from the man she loves. To be with his mate and unborn child, Kalen will have to unleash the full fury of his power, and risk destroying them all...

Review: Silver-Tongued Devil by Jaye Wells

Silver Tongued Devil is the fourth book in the Sabina Kane series by Jaye Wells and an Orbit Fantasy.

Blurb:

Now that the threat of war has passed, Sabina Kane is ready to focus on the future. Her relationship with Adam Lazarus is getting stronger and she's helping her sister, Maisie, overcome the trauma of her captivity in New Orleans. Even Giguhl is managing to stay out of trouble thanks to the arrival of Pussy Willow and his new roller derby team. But as much as Sabina wants to feel hopeful about the future, part of her doesn't believe that peace is possible.

Her suspicions are confirmed when a string of sadistic murders threatens to stall treaty negotiations between the mages and the vampires. Sabina pitches in to find the killer, but her investigation soon leads her down dark paths that have her questioning everyone she thought she could trust. And the closer she gets to the killer, the more Sabina begins to suspect this is one foe she may not be able to kill.

My thoughts:

Sabina is hoping to get on with her life - without all the vampire politics.  But that is easier said than done.  Her sister, Maisie, is suffering post traumatic stress syndrome and refuses to feed.  If that weren’t enough, bodies are turning up - drained - and that could threaten the peace talks between the mages and the vampire’s.

When Sabina is asked to investigate the murders - she reluctantly agrees - but the more strings she pulls - the more her own world seems to unravel...

Silver Tongued Devil is another great installment in a terrific series.  Sabina is one of my favorites.

I give Silver Tongued Devil 4 out of 5 stars.

Friday Cover Finds: 11/16/12

Friday Cover Finds is all about the great new book covers I've found during my ramblings on the internet.

Here is what I found this week.

Imagine a city divided. Fae and human mages on one side, vampire Blood Lords and shape-shifting Beast Kind on the other. Between these supernatural forces stands a peace treaty that threatens to shatter at the slightest provocation....

I was raised to do the right thing. But to my family that means staying safe behind the walls of human society. To be a respectable metalmage and never put myself at risk. But the treaty is faltering. And if it fails, nothing is safe. To help save the city and everyone I care about, I will use whatever means I can to ensure the negotiations to renew the treaty are successful—even if that means forging an alliance with a man who is the very opposite of the right thing.... Fen is trouble. Wild. He would rather bind himself in iron and drink himself into oblivion than learn to master the visions that come to him. Those visions might just hold the key to peace, and it seems that my power might hold the key to his control—if I can keep it around him....

Review: Kiss the Dead by Laurell K Hamilton

Kiss the Dead is the twenty-first installment in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton and a Paranormal Romance from Berkley.

Blurb:

When a fifteen year old girl is abducted by vampire’s, it’s up to US Marshal Anita Blake to find her.  And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people - kids, grandparents, soccer moms - all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master.  And where there’s one martyr, there will be more...

But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them...

My thoughts:

Anita is called in the locate a missing girl who has been taken by vampire’s.  When Anita finds her - she is surprised to see that most of the vampire’s holding her look like ordinary people.  That means they are newly turned.  And Anita should be able to control them through the marks she shares with Jean Claude.

But these new vampire’s do not belong to Jean Claude. As a matter of fact, they want nothing to do with Jean Claude - or Anita.  They do not want to be controlled by anyone.  That is all well and good - but Anita knows that all vampire’s, especially newly turned ones, need a master to help them control the blood lust.

Now Anita must find their maker - before it’s too late. Because all of these vampire’s have been issued a death warrant - and they have nothing to lose...

I am so happy with the turn this series has taken.  Anita has control over the Ardeur and does not have to do someone every hour now which leaves her free time to be what she is supposed to be - a US Marshall who executes rogue vamps.

I give Kiss the Dead 4 out of 5 stars.

WoW: Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly post started by Breaking the Spine to showcase books we are patiently awaiting.

My WoW for the week:

Blurb:
New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is certain of three truths: People don't just vanish into thin air. Never anger old people. And don't do what Tiki tells you to do.

After a slow summer of chasing low-level skips for her cousin Vinnie's bail bonds agency, Stephanie Plum finally lands an assignment that could put her checkbook back in the black. Geoffrey Cubbin, facing trial for embezzling millions from Trenton's premier assisted-living facility, has mysteriously vanished from the hospital after an emergency appendectomy. Now it's on Stephanie to track down the con man. The problem is, Cubbin has disappeared without a trace, a witness, or his money-hungry wife. Rumors are stirring that he must have had help with the daring escape . . . or that maybe he never made it out of his room alive. Since the hospital staff's lips seem to be tighter than the security, and it's hard for Stephanie to blend in to assisted living, Stephanie's Grandma Mazur goes in undercover. But when a second felon goes missing from the same hospital, Plum is forced into working side by side with Trenton's hottest cop, Joe Morelli, in order to crack the case.

The real problem is, no Cubbin also means no way to pay the rent. Desperate for money - or maybe just desperate - Plum accepts a secondary job guarding her secretive and mouthwatering mentor Ranger from a deadly special-forces adversary. While Stephanie is notorious for finding trouble, she may have found a little more than she bargained for this time around. Then again - a little food poisoning, some threatening notes, and a bridesmaid's dress with an excess of taffeta never killed anyone . . . or did it? If Stephanie Plum wants to bring in a paycheck , she'll have to remember: no guts, no glory. . . .

Xandra hasn't seen Declan in years, and though she's still overwhelmed by his power, she doesn't trust him.
