My Week in Review: 3/23/19-3/30/19

Another month is almost at an end - Spring craft fairs are in swing and the days are getting longer.  :)

Here are the books I want to share with you today:

Whiskey Ginger by Shayne Silvers - 4 Stars ****

Everything was going fine for Quinn MacKenna… until she accidentally stole from Nate Temple.

She knows how to drink, fight, and steal dangerous magical artifacts – but not for money. For favors. Because all her life she’s wanted only one thing – a secret so dangerous and well-guarded that no one will give it up.

A ticket to the Land of the Fae so she can find her dad and finally get some answers about her past.

So she doesn’t ask questions of her clients, only favors, hoping that they will eventually add up to get her what she so desperately desires. And with her unique ability to nullify magic, the world’s deadliest artifacts – or the clients who demand them – don’t really impress her very much.

But that all changes when she accidentally robs the infamous Nate Temple, and finds herself in a much deeper world of monsters and conspiracies than she ever knew existed. Because Nate Temple and his friends aren’t the only things to be afraid of.

Now she has to worry about his enemies, too…

Eve of Eternal Night by Amber Lynn Natusch - 4 Stars ****

Eve Carmichael can’t wait to graduate from college and move on with her life. Loner, outcast, and enemy of the dean, she tried her best to fit in, but all the money in the world can't buy genuine friends—or anonymity.

Then things take an unexpected turn when she witnesses a murder on campus. Especially because there's no evidence a crime ever happened the next day, and the five men responsible disappeared into thin air.

As she tries to unravel the mystery behind the phantom homicide, she finds herself on a dark and familiar path. With no-one else to trust, she seeks the help of an unlikely—but alluring—group of men. A group of men with one thing in common—an undying interest in her.

For better or worse, the rocker, the wanderer, the student, the therapist, and the adviser all have a part to play in fulfilling her destiny. Hopefully they can awaken her to the danger closing in before Eve gets herself killed.

Cast in Angelfire by SM Reine - 4 Stars ****

Nineteen-year-old Marion can’t remember anything before waking up at Mercy Hospital. All she knows that a lot of people want to kill her. And her would-be assassins are not human…

Faeries are real. So are vampires and angels.

They all want Marion dead.

Surrounded by enemies, Marion turns to Lucas Flynn: a mysterious doctor as good with a gun as he is with a scalpel. He fights like a demon but claims that he’s human. And he’s hellbent on protecting Marion.

Lucas claims that Marion is a half-witch, half-angel mage with terrifying powers that could crack the world. But Marion can’t remember how to cast magic any more than she can remember where she comes from.

Marion must find her identity and her power…before the forgotten sins of her past catch up with her.

Spooky Times by Nic Saint - 3 Stars ***

Who is Alice Whitehouse? Mortician’s assistant, gun store clerk and chairwoman of the neighborhood watch committee. Loving daughter of the Chief of Police. Best friend to local baker Felicity Bell. And then there’s the fact that Alice sees dead people. Unfortunately, they can also see her, and occasionally ask her help in solving their murder. With pluck, resolve and cheerfulness in the face of danger, she does just that, aided and abetted by the members of her neighborhood watch committee, and local police detective Rock Walker, on whom she may or may not have a secret—or not-so-secret—crush.

When Gemma Weston is found murdered, the crime baffles the police. It also baffles Alice’s neighborhood watch committee, but that has never stopped the spunky ladies of the committee before. They dive headfirst into the murder investigation, very much to the exasperation of Alice’s dad, Chief of Police Whitehouse, and the newest member of the Happy Bays Police Department, Detective Rock Walker. Spurred on by an increasingly annoying Gemma, whose ghost isn’t the nicest one Alice has ever encountered, she puts her sleuthing powers to the test to catch a killer before he or she can strike again.

Reluctant Gods by Keri Armstrong - 3 Stars ***

Becoming a powerful witch? Awesome. Being part of ancient, magical feud? Not so much.

You’d think life wouldn’t deal me any more crap hands after bringing me into this world with only one hand to begin with, and then letting me lose an eye, and ear and half of the skin on my face to hot oil when I was just a toddler.

But that’s Fate for you – a real “B”.

Nevertheless, I’ve got my sweet cousin Sara who is beautiful enough for both of us, a few good friends and now, it seems, I’ve also inherited an ancient family legacy that will change my world forever.

Who knew turning 21 would not only mean I could imbibe legally, but that I’d also finally get my first real kiss, and develop some serious witchy power? Power I’m going to need to escape the shapeshifters and giants heading our way.

Happy Birthday to me!

I hope you see something you like.  As always, thanks for stopping by.

~Michelle
