Review: The Hunger Games

This is the first book in The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins.

Book Blurb:

Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States.

Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games."

The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Katniss steps up to go in her place.

This was an amazing book.

I was, by turn, cheering Katniss on and shaking my head in disbelief.

The beginning of the story gives us background and establishes who is who and what part they are going to play. This is a little slower going - but still intriguing.

Once we get to the actual Hunger Game it is non-stop. One thing after the next, fast paced and at times - frightening. (This is where the head shaking comes in to play).

The whole premise of the book is amazing to me - I don't want to give anything away, but there are so many things I want to say. LOL

Let's just leave it at this - I loved this book. I am right now reading the sequel, Catching Fire and I am looking forward to the third installment. :)

If you enjoy YA books or want to try your first one - I highly recommend The Hunger Games. :)

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. :)
