Review: Fade Out
This is the 7th book in the Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine.
Book Blurb:
Without the evil vampire Bishop ruling over the town of Morganville, the resident vampires have made major concessions to the human population. With their newfound freedoms, Claire Danvers and her friends are almost starting to feel comfortable again.
Now Claire can actually concentrate on her studies, and her friend Eve joins the local theatre company. But when one of Eve's castmates goes missing after starting work on a short documentary, Eve suspects the worst. Claire and Eve soon realize that this film project, whose subject is the vampires themselves, is a whole lot bigger - and way more dangerous - than anyone suspected.
This is one of my favorite YA series. :)
I love the concept of a whole town built specifically for vampires to live amongst humans - as a sort of trial by fire. Can the vampires behave? Can the humans learn to coexist with the vampires and not run scared - or worse - stake first and then run?
The human/vampire dynamic is skewed, of course - with the vampires getting the better deal in my opinion. Every resident of Morganville must pay their taxes - and in Morganville taxes are paid in blood - literally.
Of course the vampires offer protection to those humans who contract with them - but really - if the vampires weren't there in the first place, no protection would be needed.
This is an awesome series and I have not been disappointed with any of the books. :) I really like Rachel Caine's writing style and have to say that I have had several surprises throughout this series - things that I didn't see coming - and that is exciting for me as a reader. :)
I give Fade Out 5 out of 5 stars. :)

Hm you do make me wanna check out the first book, but I have had such bad luck with these sorts of Ya lately
I'm with Blodeuedd, I've had some hits and misses - but this is on my list of series to try in 2010, so I'm glad to see you gave it a 5/5!
Ladies,
The only draw back I have for this series is the books are just too short. LOL They have just issued and omnibus edition that contains the first two books. :) That will make it a little longer read.

I love this series (also adore her 'Weather Warden' books). I love the world of Morganville - you're right, it is like a horrible social experiment.
I did like 'Fade Out', but it's not the best book in the series. I felt like this book was a lull in the action before Caine writes the next *BIG* storyline (Bishop's plot was pretty intense). I love that Claire and Shane were all coupley in this book, and I like the hints of a possible triangle between Shane/Claire/Myrninn (he totally watched the tape!).
I can't wait for book #8 'Kiss of Death', May 4.
The concept of a town of vampires and humans is interesting. Maybe I'll check it out later since you give the thumbs up.
