Review: Grave Sight

This is the first book in the Harper Connelly series by Charlaine Harris.

Book Blurb:

Harper Connelly has what you might call a strange job: she finds dead people. She can sense the final location of a person who's passed, and share their very last moment.

The way Harper sees it, she's providing a service to the dead while bringing some closure to the living-but she's used to most people treating her like a blood-sucking leech.

Traveling with her step-brother Tolliver as manager and sometime-bodyguard, she's become an expert at getting in, getting paid, and getting out fast. Because for the living it's always urgent-even if the dead can wait forever.

Grave Sight is a paranormal whodunnit. Harper Connelly is able to 'feel' the dead and sense what their last moments were like - she can tell what caused a persons death, whether by fair means or foul. Natural or Murder.

I loved this book.

Harper has some issues - most of them stemming from her childhood and the incident that gave her the ability to locate the dead. She comes across as frail at times - but she has the heart of a lion and she works very hard to overcome her fears. She relies very heavily on her brother Tolliver - who is better able to deal with the living people - freeing Harper to deal with the dead.

I wanted to try the other series that Charlaine Harris has written - I'm a huge fan of Sookie - and this is the first book I grabbed. I have not been disappointed. I just love Ms. Harris' writing style - her books have a wonderful flow. I also enjoy the 'southern' flavor she weaves into her stories.

I have the next two books in this series on the tbr shelf and I look forward to finding out more about Harper and her adventures in finding the dead. :)

I give Grave Sight 5 out of 5 stars. :)

I'm glad to hear you liked these. I've been thinking about starting the series but was worried I'd be dissapointed.

I love your description: a paranormal whodunnit. Definitely!!

Glad you're liking this series. Isn't it so fun? I've only read this and Sookie, too, but I'm considerig the Lily Bard.

Kris,

I got the first one in each series (Lily, Aurora and Harper) from paperbackswap - just to see if I would like them. :) So far I've only read Grave Sight - but I really enjoyed it. :)

J. Kaye,

Is it out already? I think it is..in hardback. :)

Carolyn,

:) I've not read the Lily Bard yet - but someone else said it is the 'darkest' of the three mentioned above - I think Lily has survived an attack of some kind.

I love all of Ms. Harriss's work!
So glad to read that you liked Harper Connelly. You should definitely give the 'Lily Bard' and 'Aurora Teagarden' books a try - no paranormal, but plenty of mystery with a dash of romance.

Great review.

Hi Michelle!

I love this series and Ms. Moonlight does as well. The series just gets better the more you read. I haven't picked up the last book yet, don't know why, just not enough hours in the day!
