Review: Crux

Crux is the first book in the Southern Arcana series by Moira Rogers - and a Paranormal Romance from Samhain Publishing.

Book Blurb:

To find her destiny, she must trust him with her life - and her heart.

Jackson Holt makes a decent living as a private investigator in New Orleans, home of one of the largest underground supernatural populations in the United States. He and his partners have never met a case they couldn't crack.until a local bar owner asks him to do a little digging on her newest hire.

New Orleans is the fourth destination in as many months for Mackenzie Brooks, a woman on the run from a deranged stalker. After all, any man who shows up on her doorstep claiming to be her destined lover has more than a few screws loose. But crazy doesn't explain why he always finds her no matter how far she runs.

When her well-meaning boss puts a PI on her case, Mackenzie comes face to face with the incredible truth: magic is real, and whatever spell has kept her hidden and separate from the paranormal world is rapidly deteriorating.

With time running out, she has no choice but to trust Jackson as he struggles to uncover the truth of her past - and her destiny.

Crux was an okay read.

Mackenzie Brooks has been on the run for the last few months - but no matter where she goes, she is found. Now in New Orleans Mackenzie is working as a bartender and hoping that she has finally outrun the people who are looking for her.

Her once normal life is just a distant memory.

Jackson Holt is just a good ole boy originally from Georgia - now working in New Orleans as a private investigator - who stops in every now and again for a drink at the local hot spot.

When bar owner Nicole asks Jackson to follow her new bartender, Mackenzie, home and make sure she has a safe place to stay - neither realized what they were getting themselves
mixed up in.

Crux is the first book I've read by the writing team that is Moira Rogers.

Crux started out strong - with interesting characters and a pretty good storyline. But somewhere in the middle it started lagging and I lost interest. But I stuck with it and reached the end - and it was an okay read.

I give Crux 3 out of 5 stars. :)

I'm sorry this one wasn't so much to your liking. I enjoyed this book and the 2nd book, Crossroads (I could be biased as I love books set in New Orleans *g*)

Oh honey, I am sorry this one was not... what you wanted it to be. But at least you gave us the best honest review you could.
I have yet to read this series, but I am with Patti... I will be biased because it is from my home state, lol.
I hope you had a great fourth of July, wonderful weekend and great day!

Patti,

I wasn't bad. LOL It just wasn't my cuppa I guess. :) I'm the same way about books set in Georgia - I love it when they mention landmarks and I'm like - I know that. LOL

Cecile,

I did have a wonderful weekend and a very nice 4th. I hope you did too.

Thanks for stopping by ladies.

it sucks when they do that in the middle, but glad to hear you stuck with it :)

I totally agree!
I struggled with this one, but stuck it out because I'd heard so many good things about Moira Rogers.
I have an inkling that her second series, 'Red Rock Pass', is a little better. I almost don't want to read 2nd book 'Crossroads' though.

Great review.
