Review: Grave Witch by Kalayna Price

Grave Witch is the first book in the Alex Craft series by Kalayna Price and a ROC Fantasy.

Book Blurb:

Grave witch Alex Craft can speak to the dead, but that doesn't mean she likes what they have to say.

As a private investigator and consultant for the police, Alex Craft has seen a lot of dark magic.  But even though she's on good terms with Death himself - who happens to look fantastic in jeans - nothing has prepared her for her latest case.  Alex is investigating a high-profile murder when she's attacked by the 'shade' she's raising, which should be impossible.  To top off her day, someone makes a serious attempt on her life, but Death saves her.  Guess he likes having her around...

To solve the case Alex will have to team up with tough homicide detective Falin Andrews.  Falin seems to be hiding something - though it's certainly not his dislike of Alex.  But Alex knows she needs his help to navigate the tangled webs of mortal and paranormal politics, and to track down a killer who wields a magic so malevolent, it may cost Alex her life...and her soul.

Alex Craft is a Grave Witch - that means she can raise the shade of a dead person, see ghosts, tap into the Aetheric - and even see Death.  To say she is in touch with 'other side' is an understatement.

When Alex receives a call from her estranged sister asking for a favor - Alex is at first hesitant to help.  Her sister wants Alex to look into the death of a very prominent person - and that could prove tricky - the police aren't really keen on having Alex's input on this case.  As a matter of fact, the police have left Alex out of the loop on a string of recent murders.

Alex starts snooping around and her involvement makes several people unhappy - some want to throw her in jail, others want to intimidate her - and one wants her dead.

I really like the character of Alex and the concept of a Grave Witch is interesting - I can see potential for this series.  :)

I give Grave Witch 3 out of 5 stars.

Hi Michelle
Ghosts, oh I do not know, never been a fan of those. But if you say the series might have potential

I've seen mixed reviews of this one. I'm still interested. I just may have to pick this one up.
