I absolutely love this book!!
Danielle Adelman, Danny to one and all, has returned home to the small town of Forest Peak, CA and assumed the office of sheriff. Suffering from PTSD and self medicating with alcohol - Danny is oblivious to her sister's growing discontent.
But when Kelley runs away - Danny is forced to acknowledge the part she has played in pushing Kelley away and after the initial anger - realizes that this was Kelley's way of getting Danny's attention.
Going about her duties during the towns annual festival, Danny is shocked to see hundreds of people running up the street - vacant expressions on their faces, no destination in mind - just running, until they drop dead.
And if that was not bad enough, soon after - some of those dead bodies get up and begin shuffling around.
Even a hardened soldier like Danny has never seen anything like this before - and it will take every bit of experience Danny has to keep herself and her small rag tag group safe - not only from the reanimated dead - but from the living they encounter as well.
With sporadic communication - Danny and crew have no idea what is going on in the world around them. How fair this epidemic has spread, how many - if any, survivors - or even if there is a cure. With no apparent government in place, no law enforcement or military presence - it's martial law. And he who has the biggest gun, the most weapons at hand - and the desire to use them - wants to be in charge.
I have to say that Danny is pretty hardcore. She sees a problem and goes about fixing it - even if it puts herself in harms way.
Rise Again is a non-stop, roller coaster ride: tense and riveting, keeping you guessing what's around the corner.
And not to give anything away - because I hate spoilers - but there has got to be a sequel!! The ending is jaw dropping.
I give Rise Again 5 out of 5 stars.

Last night's ep of The Walking Dead was great - the ending was terrible and sad and my son said it was a little scary - but it was great. :) I am so glad this show has been picked up for another, full season.
And yes, I am such a zombie geek and this was a really good book.

Can we purchase this yet? The Walking Dead is riveting. I don't like zombies and I hate gore, but I love this show!

Yes, Rise Again was released on 10-26-10. :)
I agree that The Walking Dead is an amazing show - I think it has a lot to do with the main character, Rick. He never forgets that those walkers were once people.
Rise Again has its gory moments - most of them involve harm to Danny.
