Review: Nekropolis by Tim Waggoner

Nekropolis is the first book in the Matt Richter/Nekropolis series by Tim Waggoner and an Urban Fantasy from Angry Robot.

Book Blurb:

MATT RICHTER MAY BE DEAD, BUT HE'LL STILL CRACK THIS CASE.

Meet Matt Richter. Private Eye. Zombie. His mean streets are the city of the dead, the shadowy realm known as Nekropolis.

This place has always been ruled by the vampire overlords.

Now they're plotting to destroy the city.
... over his dead body.

My thoughts:

I loved this book!

Matt Richter was a cop for Cleveland PD for twenty years.  He and his partner were working a string a murders when they followed their prime suspect into another realm - ending up in Nekropolis.

Now a couple of years later, Matt is a regular fixture in Nekropolis.  He 'helps out' those in need, for a fee:  finding things, solving mysteries..not much different from what he did as a cop.  But Matt is not the same.  For one thing - he is no longer 'alive' - but not your typical zombie either.  In a city full of the strange and unusual - Matt Richter stands out as a 'self-willed zombie' willing to lend an albeit dead, hand.

When Devona, the BloodBorn daughter of Lord Galm, comes to Matt for help finding a missing artifact, Matt thinks Devona may be in a position to help him as well.  It seems that the preservative spells Matt has been buying from Papa Chatha are not working as well as he'd like.  If he can't find a more permanent solution - fast, Matt may end up as nothing more than a pile of dust.

Nekropolis is a wondrous place, populated with extraordinary beings that come alive on the page.  I was immediately hooked by Matt Richter and can't wait to read more.

I give Nekropolis 5 out of 5 stars.

B,

I love me some zombies. ROFL This one was different though - he was merely undead and reanimated. Had no desire to eat a brain. :)

I don't know if I could write one - I like reading them too much. Besides, I don't think Dottie would provide a picture to inspire a zombie flash. LOL
