Review: So Close the Hand of Death by J T Ellison

So Close the Hand of Death is the sixth book in the Taylor Jackson series by J T Ellison and a Thriller from Mira.

Book Blurb:

It's a hideous echo of a violent past. Across America, murders are being committed with all the twisted hallmarks of the Boston Strangler, the Zodiac Killer and Son of Sam. The media frenzy explodes and Nashville homicide lieutenant Taylor Jackson knows instantly that The Pretender is back.  And he's got helpers.

As The Pretender's disciples perpetrate their sick homages - stretching police and FBI dangerously thin - Taylor tries desperately to prepare for their inevitable showdown. And she must do it alone. To be close to her is to be in mortal danger, and she won't risk losing anyone she loves. But the isolation, the self-doubt and the rising body count are taking their toll - she's beside herself and ready to snap.

The brilliant psychopath who both adores and despises her is drawing close. Close enough to touch.

My Thoughts:

Taylor Jackson is still reeling from the mass murders that took place during Halloween.  She is restless and not sleeping well - and it doesn’t help that fiancé John Baldwin is out of town working on problems of his own.

And The Pretender is back.  Leaving personal calling cards for Taylor - and going after those closest to her.

Now a crop of copy cat killers are springing up all over the States and Taylor has a gut feeling that The Pretender is behind it all.

All of it is a game to him - and he has set everything up to perfection.  But murder is anything but a game to Taylor and she is determined to put an end to The Pretender - one way, or another.

The more I read this series the more I like it.  Taylor Jackson is smart and tough, strong willed and independent.  This can be both a good and a bad thing.  In So Close the Hand of Death Taylor is faced with a couple of personal decision that may determine just how far she is willing to go to get the job done.

I give So Close the Hand of Death 4 out of 5 stars and can’t wait for the next installment - this one left me on a bit of a cliffhanger. :)

P&RSR,

This is a really good series. Not much romance to speak of - but really good. :)

B,

Nah, probably not for you. I know the thrillers aren't high on your list.

BJS,

You haven't read the rest of the series - you can't read out of chronological order. LOL
