Review: Lover Unleashed by J R Ward

Lover Unleashed is the ninth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J R Ward from NAL.

Book Blurb:

Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark warrior cloth as her brother.  Because she is a fighter by nature, and a maverick when it comes to the traditional role of Chosen females, there is no place for her on the Far Side...and no role for her on the front lines of the war, either.

When she suffers a paralyzing injury, human surgeon Dr. Manuel Manello is called in to treat her as only he can - and he soon gets sucked into her dangerous secret world.  Although he never before believed in things that go bump in the night - like vampires - he finds himself more than willing to be seduced by the powerful female who marks both his body and his soul.

As the two find so much more than an erotic connection, the human and vampire worlds collide...just as a centuries-old score catches up with Payne and puts both her love and her life in deadly jeopardy.

My thoughts:

Payne’s injuries are severe and the more time that passes - the more her body tries to heal itself - but without the proper care - her body will heal incorrectly.

Doc Jane knows that Payne has spinal cord injuries - and she also knows that the best surgeon around is her old boss Manuel Manello - but Manny thinks Jane is dead - that is going to make asking him for help a little on the awkward side.

Manny has mourned Jane - and the relationship he’d hoped to have with her - for a couple of years.  Imagine his surprise when she literally pops up out of no where and asks for his help.

Being the professional that he is - Manny immediately agrees to help Jane - and enters a world unlike any he could have imagined.

I enjoyed Lover Unleashed - but it was not my favorite installment.  V seemed to get more time than Payne.

A lot of progress was made in regard to V’s inner turmoil.

A small amount of progress was made with Qhuinn - he was able to admit his feelings to himself - that's a start.

I give Lover Unleashed 3 out of 5 stars.

I am so annoyed when these books are supposed to be about the couple and then they are more about someone else. Like with R's book

I thought the book was ridiculous. was it Wicked Little Pixie that counted 16 plots in there? :))) It was just too much about everyone and very rushed about the main couple

B,

I felt the same way about Phury's book. It was hardly about him at all.

K-K,

I agree completely, I like it that all the characters are mentioned in the books - like an ongoing story. But if that is the case, then I think it would be better to present each book as the next installment in the BDB - rather than have one person on the cover and say the book is about them.

Thanks for stopping by ladies.

This wasn't my favourite book either. I didn't really rate Manny and Payne, they did nothing for me. They were just two random characters thrown together.

I want Blay & Qhuinn's book - NOW! lol
