Early Review: Isle of Night by Veronica Wolff
Isle of Night is the first book in the Watchers series by Veronica Wolff and a YA Paranormal from NAL.
Book Blurb:
Is life offering fewer and fewer options? Then join the dead.
When Annelise meets dark and seductive Ronan, he promises her a new life-if she has the courage to chance the unknown. Now, she's whisked away to a mysterious island and pitted against other female recruits to become a Watcher-girls who are partnered with vampires and assist them in their missions.
To survive and become a Watcher, Annelise has to beat out every other girl, but she's determined to do so, because to fail doesn't mean dishonor-it means death.
My thoughts:
Annelise Drew is all of seventeen years old - and those seventeen years have been harsh. She lost her mother at a very young age, her father is abusive and her step mother thinks less of her than the dirt under her feet.
But Annelise is smart. Very smart. With an IQ over 180 and test scores off the charts, Annelise graduated high school early and is looking at college as her way out.
When Annelise shows up at college registration, she is told her high school records are incomplete - that she must return to high school and re-apply to college in the fall.
With no where else to go - Annelise feels that her best option comes from Ronan, a guy she met in the registrar’s office. He told her about a school for ‘special’ girls, just like her.
What he failed to tell her is that those other girls aren’t just smart, they are tough - and at this school, it’s survival of the fittest - because failure is not an option. Those who fail - die.
Isle of Night is an amazing read I devoured in one day. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
I give Isle of Night 5 out of 5 stars.
