Review: Dark Descendant by Jenna Black

Dark Descendant is the first book in the Descendants series by Jenna Black and an Urban Fantasy from Pocket Books.

Book Blurb:

Nikki Glass can track down any man. But when her latest client turns out to be a true descendant of Hades, Nikki now discovers she can't die. . . .

Crazy as it sounds, Nikki's manhunting skills are literally god-given. She's a living, breathing descendant of Artemis who has stepped right into a trap set by the children of the gods. Nikki's new 'friends' include a descendant of Eros, who uses sex as a weapon; a descendant of Loki, whose tricks are no laughing matter; and a half-mad descendant of Kali who thinks she's a spy.

But most powerful of all are the Olympians, a rival clan of immortals seeking to destroy all Descendants who refuse to bow down to them. In the eternal battle of good god/bad god, Nikki would make a divine weapon.

But if they think she'll surrender without a fight, the gods must be crazy. . . .

My thoughts:

Nikki Glass has not had an easy life.  In and out of foster homes, she developed a tough, outer shell that rarely allowed anyone to see the real Nikki underneath.

When she was adopted by the Glass family, Nikki had to adjust to being in a stable home - with an older sister and parents who honestly cared about her well being.

Now, Nikki is a successful PI - she always finds whatever or whoever, she is looking for - and she always follows her gut instinct.

But now the case she is working on has taken a turn and Nikki’s instincts are telling her to walk away - but she can’t just leave her client hanging.

Too bad she didn’t listen to her instincts...

I absolutely loved Dark Descendant.

Nikki is tough - but she has empathy.  Too much in my opinion - she is a little more forgiving than I think I could be.

I can’t wait for more in this series.

I give Dark Descendant 5 out of 5 stars.
