Review: Who Do, VooDoo? by Rochelle Staab

Who Do, Voodoo? Is the first book in the Mind for Murder Mystery series by Rochelle Staab and a Berkley Prime Crime Mystery.

Book Blurb:

When Liz Cooper’s friend Robin Bloom finds an unusual tarot card tacked to her front door, Liz writes it off as a prank.  Robin refuses to ignore the omen - her late husband drew the same card, the Three of Swords, in a reading the night before he was killed in a car accident.  As more cards and darker threats appear, Liz realizes someone very dangerous is upping the ante...

Liz turns to her brother’s ex-college roommate, occult expert Nick Garfield.  As Nick leads her into the voodoo community to locate the origin of the deck, she can’t ignore their attraction to each other.  Then, a woman is found murdered and Robin becomes the prime suspect. Determined to clear her friend, Liz teams with Nick to unravel otherworldly secrets and seek help from beyond - or risk being outwitted by a cunning killer...

My thoughts:

Liz Cooper is a psychologist with a failed marriage under her belt - but a thriving practice and a great friend that take up most of her time.  When that friend, Robin, begins to receive threatening messages tacked to her door and hang up calls in the middle of the night, Liz decides to take matters into her own hands.

Contacting her tarot reading mother for advice, Liz then gets her policeman brother involved - who suggests Liz talk to his friend, occult expert Nick Garfield.

Now with everyone in the loop, Liz and Nick delve deeper into the occult community.  What they find is murder, betrayal, and a really strong curse.

Together Liz and Nick must find all the players and break the curse - before it’s too late.

I liked Who Do, Voodoo - Liz is strong minded and determined.  I look forward to more from this series.

I give Who Do, Voodoo 3 out of 5 stars.
