Review: Never Again by Michele Bardsley

Never Again is the first book in the Wizards of Nevermore series by Michele Bardsley and a Paranormal Romance from Signet Eclipse.

Book Blurb:

Welcome to Nevermore, Texas, population 503, where witches and wizards live side by side with humans.  Small towns like Nevermore are vanishing in America - and in this case, that could be the work of a freelancing witch...

Cursed and Double Cursed

Lucinda Rackmore never would have been caught dead in a town like Nevermore.  Of course, that was before the ‘great reckoning’ drained the family finances and her former lover, ruthless master wizard Bernard Franco, snuffed out Lucy’s magical abilities.

But can Lucy really expect protection from the Guardian of Nevermore, her ex-brother-in-law, Gray Calhoun?  Gray wants nothing to do with her - and Lucy can’t blame him. Not after her sister sacrificed him to a demon lord.  Still, with everyone in town looking to settle a score with the Rackmores and Bernard bent on dragging Lucy back into his clutches, Gray might be her only hope for survival...

My thoughts:

Lucinda Rackmore grew up the privileged younger daughter of a wealthy magical family.  She never wanted for anything, never worked for anything - it was a pretty good life.

Until the day the Rackmore fortunes were taken away as payment for a demon deal an ancestor made hundreds of years ago.

Now all of the Rackmore’s are penniless and most of them are shunned.  To add insult to injury, Lucy has been personally cursed by her crazy ex.  She can no longer use her magical ability to heal - and to try leaves her in unimaginable pain.

As a last resort, Lucy makes her way to Nevermore, hoping to find help in the form of Gray Calhoun.

Gray Calhoun is the Dragon Guardian of Nevermore - but for the last five years, he hasn’t done much guarding. Lost in his own world, Gray has let duties to Nevermore fall to the wayside.  And the town has suffered for it.

Nevermore is unbalanced and that leaves it vulnerable to bad magic.  Someone is aware of this imbalance and is poised to take advantage of it - wanting to obtain the title of Guardian - no matter who stands in the way.

I absolutely love Michele Bardsley’s writing - fast paced, fun with little unexpected twists - I am always entertained.

I give Never Again 4 out of 5 stars.

Jennifer,

I love the Broken Heart series too - and found it completely by accident while shopping with my daughter a few years ago. :)
