Review: The Night is Mine by M L Buchman

The Night is Mine is the first book in the new Night Stalkers series by M L Buchman and a Romantic Suspense from SourceBooks Casablanca.

Book Blurb:

Name: Emily Beale
Rank: Captain
Mission: Fly undercover to prevent the assassination of the First Lady, posing as her executive pilot

Name: Mark Henderson, Code Name Viper
Rank: Major
Mission: Undercover role of wealthy, ex-mercenary boyfriend to Emily

Their jobs are high risk, high reward:

Protect the lives of the powerful and the elite at all cost.

Neither expected that one kiss could distract them from their mission.  But as the passion mounts between them, their lives and their hearts will both be risked...and the reward this time may be worth it.

My thoughts:

Captain Emily Beale is the first woman to ever make it through the SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment) training.  Now part of the elite military fighting squad that calls themselves the Night Stalkers, Emily is flying a helicopter in the deserts of Afghanistan.

And loving every minute of it.

When an unexpected request sends Emily stateside, she is devastated.  As a pilot - she wants nothing to do with being on the ground - or playing bodyguard to the wife of her childhood crush.

But that childhood crush is now the President of the United States - and her boss.  So she can’t really say no.

And right now, getting out of Afghanistan might be a good idea - because Major Henderson kissed her.  An offense that could have both of them thrown out of the military.  No matter that the kiss was scorching hot - it’s not worth her career....

I enjoyed The Night is Mine.

I will admit that finding out M L Buchman is a man may have given me preconceived notions that a Romantic Suspense written by a man could not be as good as one written by a woman.

And I did find marked differences.  There is more action in The Night is Mine and the sex scenes are less graphic (let’s be honest, the ladies can write some raunchy sex scenes) - but I liked it.  A lot.

I give The Night is Mine 4 out of 5 stars and I can’t wait for more from the series - and from Mr. Buchman.

Oh, written by a man? That's...unexpected. But interesting. I think I will try it :P

Great review--I have to agree with what you said. :) That is also the rating I gave it, and I can't wait for future books in this series, he plans to have it be a full woman helicopter team (pilot, engineer, etc) so each story will highlight the next part of the team.

I was surprised when I found out M.L. was a man, as I hadn't read any romance novels by men, but I think he did a great job. True, like you said, the action was stronger than the sex (surprising, isn't it, since we all think that it is the male gender that has sex on the mind constantly! LOL), but it was still enjoyable and well done. :)

Enjoy,

Guys do have sex on the mind... a lot! And I've written some "hot" stuff, and thrown it in the trash bin. I think I do that for a couple of reasons. I find graphic written sex to be just that, graphic written sex. What excites me in writing is the emotional wrangle that goes on around it, that's where I find my fun as a writer. So, I strive to choose and focus my moment, I don't close the door, but nor am I like some of my erotica friends, always searching for more edge. But also, I think sex is like pro sports, I don't get it. I don't want to watch, I want to play. Give me a good game of pickup volleyball over the Knicks any day of the week. So, (I'm just trying to figure this out as I write this) I strive to place heart on the page and just enough to help your imagination down the road. :)

Thanks for the nice write-up, and hey there TBQ!
