Review: Doubletake by Rob Thurman

Doubletake is the seventh Cal Leandros novel by Rob Thurman and a ROC Fantasy.

Book Blurb:

If anyone knows that having family isn’t always a good thing, it’s half-human, half-living-nightmare Cal Leandros. But for once, it’s not Cal’s relatives causing the trouble. That headache belongs to his half brother, Niko, whose ne-er-do-well father is in town. He needs a favor, and if Niko refuses, it just might doom the entire city.

Yet an even more dangerous reunion is in the works.  The entire lying, stealing, hormonally hopped-up puck race (including the brothers’ lethally charismatic friend Robin Goodfellow) is in town for their milliennial meeting - and to hold a lottery that no puck wants to win.

As Cal tries to keep both Niko and Robin from paying the ultimate price for their kin, a horrific reminder from Cal’s own past arrives to show him that blood is thicker than water...and that’s why it’s so much more fun to spill.

My thoughts:

Robin has hired Cal and Niko to pour drinks and keep the peace during the puck family reunion - a job that Cal is sure they didn’t charge enough to complete.

Niko’s father, Kalakos, has come to town and wants the brothers to help him find and contain his ‘burden’.  Kalakos is Rom, part of the Vayash Clan, and all clans have a duty and a watch - his is the Janus - and the Janus has escaped.

If that weren’t enough someone from Cal’s past has come calling and he wants Cal’s help.  Help in dominating the humans...

Doubletake is an enjoyable read.  I like Cal and Niko and Robin is hilarious.

I give Doubletake 4 out of 5 stars.

It sounds like another great book by Rob Thurman. Already looking forward to the puck invasion. :)
