Review: Love in the Time of Dragons by Katie MacAlister

Love in the Time of Dragons is the first book in The Light Dragons series by Katie MacAlister and a Paranormal Romance from Signet.

Blurb:

If you found out you were a famous fire-breather, you’d be freaked out too.

Tully Sullivan is just like any other suburban mom - unless you count the days every year that she zones out and turns base metals into gold.  Those are weird.

And now she’s woken up in a strange place surrounded by strange people who keep insisting that they’re dragons - and that she’s one too.  But not just any dragon.  She’s Ysolde de Bouchier, a famed figure from dragon history.

Tully can’t shape-shift or breathe fire, and she’s definitely not happy being sentenced to death for the misdeeds of a dragon mate she can’t remember.  All Tully knows is that she wants her son back.  So she’ll have to find a way to solve the crimes of a past she has no memory of living...

My thoughts:

Tully Sullivan is a mage apprentice - not a very good one - because her spells always go wrong.  Every six months or so she suffers a fugue spell - one that causes her to lose time and make gold...

Her husband loves the gold making part - but he doesn’t seem to care very much for Tully - or their son.

When Tully wakes from an unexpected fugue - she is surprised to learn that she has been in the care of strangers for some time.  Her surprise turns to worry when those strangers tell her that they are dragons - and that she too is a dragon.  That she is in fact the mate of Baltic, the dread wyvern.

Tully does not believe any of this - but can’t explain the visions she’s been having of another time, another place, another her...

Baltic is accused of killing hundreds of his own kind - if he can’t be brought to justice for those crimes - his mate can be held accountable...but Sully is not wiling to die for crimes she did not commit - and even though she does not remember Baltic - she is sure he didn’t commit them either.

Love in the Time of Dragons is a fun, quirky read - and I enjoyed it.
I give Love in the Time of Dragons 3 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed the Aisling Grey series, but failed to get into the Silver dragons, which is also why I haven't given this series a chance. You're making me rethink my decision though...
