My Week in Review: 3/25/17-4/1/17

I was on a bit of a post-apocalyptic/dystopian kick this past week. I will admit that this is one of my all time favorite genre's and feel that should the world fall into the chaos of a zombie apocalypse my family and I will be prepared.  :)  Here are my reads:

Death Match by A. Blythe - 4 Stars****

Losing the games can mean losing your life...

Alyse Winters, former covert supernatural agent, is laying low while she investigates who muzzled her magic and why. Faced with upsetting news about her handler and Ghuls behaving strangely, Alyse has her work cut out for her. When her mage sidekick is chosen to fight in the dangerous Colony Games, Alyse risks discovery and death in order to protect her young charge.
As the games progress, she realizes there's much more at stake than her own survival.

The Human by Keary Taylor - 4 Stars****

The city of New Eden is cleared, but it won’t stay that way forever. The Bane continue to advance in horrific ways that will wipe humanity from the face of the Earth. A storm is coming, one none of them could have dared imagine.

When a group of outsiders come to the city, everyone is on edge. They have too many questions and not enough answers about where they are from or what they want. Just because they are human doesn’t mean they can be trusted. Eve made a choice–one that could have deadly repercussions.

Desperate hearts bring about desperate actions. Now she must make another decision as her world continues to crumble: come to terms with who she really is, or risk her sanity. She thought she had unlocked all the secrets from her past, but there are truths still buried that leave her questioning what is real and what is not.

Arcadium by Sarah Gray - 3 Stars***

What is Arcadium?

Florence knows but she’s not telling anyone, and it could just be the key to the survival of the human race. Sixteen-year-old Florence West must journey across a disease ravaged Melbourne with her nine-year-old sister, Liss, and she’ll do anything to survive.

Mostly that means staying clear of all people, the healthy ones on the run and the infected ones hungry for human flesh.

But when she meets a man that speaks no English and a defiant set of brothers, Florence will be forced to question her ways. Because there’s only so far you can go alone, right?

Silver Staked by Shannon Mayer & Denise Grover Swank
3 Stars***

My name is Leah, and I am a Cazador. Trained to hunt and kill vampires over 300 years ago, my training became essential once I became one of those monsters.

The underbelly of the supernatural world has begun to bleed into the human world and journalist Rachel Sambrook, is asking too many dangerous questions. Unwittingly, she's revealed a conspiracy I had hoped would never become a reality; using vampire blood for human experiments.

As I attempt to contain her, she's by my side as the truth of just how deep the darkness goes is exposed. Unfortunately, the consequences have also brought forth the creatures that hide around every corner; thirsty for flesh.

The only question remaining is which one of us will survive the inevitable blood bath ahead?

SILVER STAKED was previously released under the title "Recombinant"

The Last City by Logan Keys - 3 Stars***

After the undead plague leaves the world in ruins, ex-prisoner and survivor Liza Randusky returns to Anthem City, but she's not your average sixteen-year-old anymore. Gifted with super-strength by a mysterious doctor, when Liza meets the leader of a rebel group called the Skulls, she's thrust into a struggle for power against an evil regime. Now, she must attempt to gain allies to their cause by use of her dark new gift, before the citizens are purged one and all into mindless zombies.

Meanwhile, a super-soldier and seventeen-year-old Tommy has joined the Underground Army, training for war against those that hold Anthem City. But Tommy struggles with the havoc wreaking monster that's been created inside of him, and he'll be forced to lead the deadly battle himself, and soon, or the home he longs to see will be forever lost.

Emerge, The Awakening by Melissa A Craven - 3 Stars***

Allie Carmichael has always believed life is simple.
You're born. You live. You die.
She has no cause to believe those rules don't apply to her.

All her life, Allie has suffered in silence as those around her shrink from her touch, too intimidated to take the time to get to know her. It's left her feeling like an outcast for fifteen years.
When an unexpected move to Kelleys Island brings Aidan McBrien crashing into her life, Allie is thrown by his reaction. He isn't affected by her touch. He doesn't stutter or make a quick exit. He smiles and welcomes her into his circle of friends.

For the first time ever, Allie knows what true friendship means. Finally, she has a real shot at normal--until "normal" crashes and burns when she wakes in agony on her sixteenth birthday. Aidan calls it her Awakening, a rite of passages he and their friends have all faced. Allie struggles in ignorance through the experience, uncertain of what is real and what isn't. When she emerges, she is different.

She has always been different, but even among her extraordinary friends, she and Aidan are special.
As Allie struggles to maintain her tenuous grasp on the power that threatens to overwhelm her, she worries she will lose herself in this strange new world of ancient Immortal beings. A dangerous world where she will have to fight tooth and nail to defend the power and freedom that is her birthright.

Darkness Awakened by Stephanie Rowe - 3 Stars***

No warrior is safe from his own darkness, or from the woman destined to love and destroy him.

When his blood brother goes missing, immortal warrior Quinn Masters will break every rule of his kind to save him, including teaming up with the sensuous, courageous woman destined to be his ultimate destruction.

Haunted by a brutal past, Illusionist Grace Matthews will risk everything to rescue her kidnapped sister, even if it means putting her life in the sinfully capable hands of an immortal warrior whose ravaging kisses and intense passion propel her ruthlessly toward a fateful destiny she can't afford to believe in.

That wraps up my week.  I hope your week in reading was wonderful.  :)

Thanks for stopping by,
Michelle
