Hi there. Last week I found a couple of new to me authors and I enjoyed their books enough to want to read more in their respective series. I also found several very promising books - but they ended up being just meh. Another case of the book cover being more exciting than the actual read.
Here are the books I enjoyed:
Resurgence: Green Fields #5 by Adrienne Lecter
5 Stars *****
Not so lucky anymore…
Civilization is on the brink of crumbling—and this time not
just due to the zombie apocalypse. The roads have become dangerous, and what
havens have been established are no longer safe. Murmurs of unrest—or maybe
even a brewing civil war—are getting loud. No longer are zombies the only thing
preying on those that think to brave the world outside the settlements.
Yet as grave as things are getting, this is not the main
issue that is plaguing Nate’s mind. He has bigger fish to fry.
A Little Fang Never Hurt Anybody by J R Pearson
4 Stars ****
WELCOME! THE ISLAND OF PARANORMAL FREAKS, AWAITS YOU!
May the Gods have mercy on your soul...
Werewolf Wild Child
Taco Enthusiast.
Drunk Table Dancing Expert.
Queen of Shitty Relationships.
Me.
Kokoa Lovell. (Pronounced as cocoa)
I'm a honest-to-goodness, denial wearing- f*ck-up.
My love life contains themes of extreme complication,
washboard abs and mind-blowing romps in the sack. 'Commitment' is nowhere in my
vocabulary, so I'm winning as well as losing in Cupid's department.
Slouch Witch by Helen Harper - 4 Stars ****
Hard Work Will Pay Off Later. Laziness Pays Off Now.
Let's get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine.
In fact, she's probably the last witch in the world who you'd call if you
needed a magical helping hand. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day
every day on her sofa where she could watch TV, munch junk food and talk to her
feline familiar to her heart's content.
However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as
the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into
Arcane Branch, the investigative department of the Hallowed Order of Magical
Enlightenment. Her problems are quadrupled when a valuable object is stolen
right from under the Order's noses.
It doesn't exactly help that she's been magically bound to
Adeptus Exemptus Raphael Winter. He might have piercing sapphire eyes and a
body which a cover model would be proud of but, as far as Ivy's concerned, he's
a walking advertisement for the joyless perils of too much witch-work.
And if he makes her go to the gym again, she's definitely
going to turn him into a frog.
Underground Magic by N R Larry and Margo Bond Collins
4 Stars ****
She’ll give in to the darkest power to gain their freedom.
Five years ago, Lawrence Kincade walked away from the
underground resistance, having lost all she loved in the fight against the
Party—her friends, her family, her freedom to use her magical ability.
Everything.
Since then, she's been in hiding, trying to come to terms
with living outside a society that now reviles everything she values. But when
she learns the Party has reinstated the extermination policy in the Purity
Camps, she realizes she can no longer remain apart from the fight.
As Lawrence attempts to rejoin and revitalize the resistance
she abandoned, she must once again seek out allies, often in unexpected places.
With the help of a surprisingly sexy shifter who prowls the streets of
post-apocalyptic Birmingham, Alabama, she'll have to deal with the last place
she ever wanted to end up, and the first on the Party's list to be eradicated:
Purity Camp D.
With a little luck and a lot of work, maybe she can save the
prisoners using her own brand of Underground Magic.
Rise of the Dead by Jeremy Dyson - 4 Stars ****
Blake was never one for taking chances. He lived in a world
of formulas and equations. A statistician in a controlled society where
everything had become predictably mundane. That world disappeared the day the
dead got up and began attacking the living.
Now, the end is here. Blake finds himself fighting for his
life in a world that is rapidly spiraling out of control. He struggles to keep
himself alive and must risk everything to find his family.
Along the way, Blake finds himself thrust among other
unlikely survivors. Together they must adapt to the realities of the undead
world, or join the legion of zombies. The characters must overcome their
conditioned human apathy and come together if they have any chance of survival.
That wraps up my reading week. I hope you've found some great books. As always, thanks for stopping by.
Michelle
