My Week in Review: 9/30/17-10/7/17

I did not get as many books read last week as I had intended.  Our daughter found out the gender of the baby - it's a boy!  So we had a lot more family time with all of the excitement of that reveal .  I am not complaining about that.  :)  Here are the books I would like to share with you:

Stormrise by Skye Knizley - 4 Stas ****

Life isn't easy for Detective Raven Storm. Her best friend was recently killed and dismembered, her latest case ended with her partner in intensive care, and her mother, the vampiric Mistress of the City is playing matchmaker… again. The last thing she wants is another bizarre murder case with a partner she doesn't know. But that is exactly what she gets when she is handed the enigmatic case of Nathan King, who was found in his car with a gaping hole where his stomach should be.

Soon Raven is unraveling a mystery that leads her deep into the city's preternatural underworld, and into the arms of a sexy vampire she barely knows, but whose heart she seeks in the darkness…

Magic In My Bones by Kellie Sheridan - 4 Stars ****

My name is Melanie Sinclair, and as far as anyone knows, I've been dead since the day I was born.

It's been over two decades since I was smuggled into Galway to be raised where the magical community would never find me. Two decades of hiding. Two decades of pretending to be less than I am, blending in with the lesser magicks--those whose abilities are of little interest to those in power.

With the threat of exposure is growing every day, humanity is getting closer and closer to learning about a world they may not be ready to handle. The supernatural world must band together if they stand any chance of survival.

Now, Galway has been chosen to host a summit between the four major factions, the same people my family died to protect me from. Because, of course it has.

So much for the luck of the Irish.

Fresh Hell by David Bussell - 4 Stars ****

What happens when an exorcist who spent a lifetime evicting ghosts gets murdered and becomes one?

When Jake Fletcher died, he discovered a horrible truth. The souls he thought he'd been dispatching to the afterlife are no more. He wasn't sending them to a better place, he was obliterating them.

To atone for his mortal sins, he becomes a detective: a phantom PI. Now he helps other restless spirits depart the earthly plane by bringing their killers to justice.

Jake's latest job is no open-and-shut case though. The ghost of a dead woman needs his help to pass on to the other side, but for that to happen, he'll have to defeat a demon.

Does Jake have what it takes to send the killer back to Hell, or is another soul about to be lost forever?

Protocol One by Jacqueline Druga - 3 Stars ***

On the eve of an extinction level event, Anna Jenner’s survival is almost assured. All she has to do is travel with her son from Midland, Texas to the designated safe zone out east, picking up selected essential personnel on her journey. Her job is to lead and bring the chosen few to the sanctuary. A comet is on a direct collision course for earth. Its impact will bring global devastation.

Anna and the others will be the ones to rise from the ashes when the dust settles. Everything is set. But along the way, chaos over the nearing event ensues, and while crossing a panic filled country, Anna makes decisions that impact the long term plan.

She is human.

Unable to refuse those who ask for help, Anna opens the door to strangers in her own small attempt to preserve humanity. The meticulously drawn out long term plan is out the window. Not only must Anna prove to everyone that her choices were the correct ones, she must try to maintain balance in an emotionally difficult situation. Unfortunately, it is not easy for her. In the days and weeks following the event, everything in the bunker must be rethought, recalculated and unfortunately, heartbreaking decisions made.

That's all of them.  I hope you are reading something wonderful!

Thanks for stopping by,
