My Week in Review: 3/3/1/18-4/7/18

I was pretty pleased with the books I chose this week.  I found a couple of new to me series that look very promising and I am excited to see where they take me.

Here is what I want to share with you today:

Fury of Fire by Coreene Callahan - 4 Stars ****

A clandestine race of half-dragon, half-humans known as dragon shifters lives among us. Bastian, leader of the Nightfury dragon clan, is sworn to protect humankind at all costs. For him, honor and duty always come first. When the clan dictates he take a human mate to sire a son, he falters, aware that for a human to birth a dragon shifter she must die. Myst, the woman given into his care, is the most extraordinary he’s ever met, and though he can’t bear the thought of harming her he is bound by duty.

Myst loves her life in the human world, but Bastian has captured her heart in an instant of electric connection. But Bastian and his warriors are in the middle of a deadly battle with the Razorback dragon shifters, intent on killing every Nightfury clan member—and the humans they protect—the fate of their world and ours hangs in the balance.

Catacombs by Avery Cross - 4 Stars ****

Briar Shroud has gone from foster child to full scholarship at the Academy of Ancients. Cool, right?

Not quite. Her upperclassman mentor Zachary sucks. He's hot, but he sucks at being a mentor. And a friend. And a person.

Her roommate's a paranormal, and the whole school is underground and a secret.
Know what else is bad? Briar learns she's a witch. And a rare type of witch, to boot.

It went from bad to worse—a picture of a sister she's never heard of appears at the school. A sister she knows nothing about.

And the rules seem hellbent on keeping Briar from learning the truth. And sometimes, it seems other forces would rather not see her alive.

Wild Side by Kelly Goode - 4 Stars ****

Kari Stillwell longs to be normal, but being born with white hair and the ability to control air lands her in trouble more often than not. She doesn’t go looking for danger; it just knows where to find her.

Working as an investigator for a supernatural law firm, she is tasked with finding a missing girl who police believe died at the hands or rather “fangs” of her vampire boyfriend.

The search takes Kari to Wild Side, a nightclub that has no trouble living up to its name. It’s a place for humans to fulfil their dark fantasies whilst the blood flows freely on tap.

Aided by a sexy vampire (who can read her mind) and a secretive shape-shifter (who just so happens to be in the right place at the right time whenever she needs him), Kari realises that in order to survive the game that she has been forced into playing she might have to become something she fears...

...something more than human.

Outcast: Spellslingers Academy of Magic by Annabel Chase
4 Stars ****

I live by one simple rule: no magic.

Not too hard in the human world, plus it keeps me hidden from my evil sorcerer father. Safe.

When I’m forced into using magic to save an innocent family, the jig is up.

Or so I believe.

Instead, I’m whisked off to an academy of magic in a place I never knew existed. The problem is—my power is completely raw, which means I don’t know my butt from a broomstick. At first it's all wands, witches, and a new wardrobe...until I get caught in a restricted area with a dead body. Now it's going to take more than magic to clear my name. Thanks to new friends and a magically delicious vampire called Gray, I don't have to fly solo anymore.

I'm out of my depth and out of options. Can I catch a killer before it's too late, or am I doomed to live a life on the run?

Waking Chaos by T L Callahan - 3 Stars ***

Wealth. Desire. Power. All could be yours in the Paldimori Games.

Lia Davies has buried the terror and guilt of her past under a life of quiet routine. Her fragile peace is shattered when she becomes the target of vicious rumors. To save her business, she makes a desperate decision to enter a mysterious game that promises a substantial prize for the winner.

What should have been the solution to all of her problems turns into a deadly fight for her life as inexplicable events begin to occur. Chaos—the sexy yet infuriating leader of the six Paldimori Houses—calls them “accidents.” Lia isn’t buying it. After all, man-eating plants aren’t a real thing, right?

What she will discover about her past and the ancient power waking on the island of Sotirìa will change them all forever. Whispers of a prophecy are stirring, and Lia is at the center of it all. Trusting the one man who sparks her fury—and her passion—may be the only way to survive the Paldimori Games.

That was my week.  I hope you see something you'd like to try.  I am eager to get to the books I have lined up for this week - got a couple of shifter books in there and I might be in the mood for a zombie read.  :)  Let's be honest, when am I not in the mood for a zombie read?

Thanks for stopping by,
