My Week in Review: 9/8/18-9/15/18

I was pretty pleased with this weeks selection of books.  I guess I do have my favorites as far as genre's go.  :)

This weeks genre theme: Fae/Fairy

Ascension by Zoe Parker - 5 Stars *****

Ever get a job that sucks?

My name is Iza Black and my life IS the sucky job.
I mean yeah, there are perks. Live-in maid service, free food and I get this purple, sparkly aura thing.
But there are way more bad parts.
So many people, so much pain. Sleep has divorced me completely and I'm living their nightmares now too.

I'm not sure I'm strong enough for this, that I can do what needs to be done. But I have to. Because it's my job...because someone needs to. These people need violence to meet violence. Hugs don't always fix things in our world.

Then there's Phobe. Frustrating, Phobe-the-jerk.
How does he fit into this, you may ask?
Keep reading and you'll find out.

Snake in the Grass by Kimbra Swain - 4 Stars ****

Shady Grove is having a fairy council election!

Grace’s throne isn’t on the ballot until she walks into town.

Since taking over the title as their Queen, Grace has found the job to be an overwhelming task. So, the citizens decide to hold a council election to support the fairy population and the natural trouble that arises. However, when a legitimate challenger slithers into town, the throne is suddenly for grabs.

Amidst fending off the challenge, a Kitsune rolls into town looking for a mate, and she has her sights set on Grace’s fiancé, Dylan. Grace has to fight for her throne, her fiancé, and her life, as her challenger pushes the limits.

If you think human elections can be wild, just wait until you see how manipulative and vindictive fairies can be! When it’s all said and done, Grace discovers the true snake in the grass, but at what cost? The true power she faces is beyond anything she could have ever imagined.

Of Gods and Fae by Tom Keller - 4 Stars ****

You see plenty of strange things when you're a P.I. in Las Vegas, but even that couldn’t prepare ex-cop Robert Hoskins for what was to come. At first he couldn't believe that all those stories he'd been told as a child were true. But hearing that the Fae had taken the casinos over from the mob was something else. Elves, Dwarves, Werewolves and Faeries were just the beginning and battling dark Mages, the opening act.

Having banished his enemy to the cold hell of Tartarus he'll now have to travel to the Fae lands to claim his birthright. Along the way, and after, there's Demons and Dragons to fight and a trip down the river Styx to the gates of Hades itself is on the playlist if he'll want to defeat the dark Fae's minions and undo an ancient curse.

From the author of "Return of the High Fae," this is book two in the Vegas Fae stories but a standalone novel in its own right.

Sin City will never be the same.

She figures out a way she can have her cake and eat it too, receiving her elemental powers and creating the reverse harem of her dreams.

But first she’ll have to make it happen—while also fighting off fierce mountain trolls, golems, a manticore, and a ferocious dragon.

Enchantment by Tanya Dawson - 3 Stars ***

One girl. Two bloodlines. One pledge to be made.

When Olivia Whitby’s mother vanishes, a cryptic letter left at her door leads her to a family she never knew – a family of Fae.

However, the secrets run even deeper, and Olivia soon finds herself trapped amongst the power struggle between the Fae and the Sabean Vampires, whom she is thoroughly warned to stay away from. However, the possibility of finding out the truth about herself is too captivating, as is Henry, an enigmatic Sabean vampire. To make matters worse, she is also falling for her guardian, Skylar.

Time is closing in. Torn between both worlds, Olivia must soon pledge to one side or the other. The balance of the underworld could depend on it. Will she choose her Fae bloodline, or will those damn Sabean vampires sway her away?

That wraps another week of good reads.  :)  I hope you are reading something great.

As always, thank you for stopping by.
