Death's Daughter

This is the first book in the Calliope Reaper-Jones series by Amber Benson.

Book Blurb:

Calliope Reaper-Jones so just wanted a normal life: buying designer shoes on sale, dating guys from Craig's List, web-surfing for organic dim-sum for her boss...

But when her father - who happens to be Death himself - is kidnapped, and the Devil's Protege embarks on a hostile takeover of the family business, Death, Inc., Callie returns home to assume the CEO mantle - only to discover she must complete three nearly impossible tasks in the realm of the afterlife first.

As far as I can tell this is the first solo book by Ms. Benson. It was not a bad read - but it seemed filled with modern day cliche's. The main character, Calliope, is supposed to be living and working in New York - but she comes across as an air headed Valley Girl.

I could not tell if this was supposed to be a light hearted book with a touch of drama or a dramatic book with a touch of humor. Either way, it fell short of my expectations. I am beginning to wonder if my expectations are too high. LOL

In all honesty the book was a fair read and if there is a sequel I will more than likely buy it - just to see how Callie is adjusting. :)

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars. :)
