Review: Blue Bloods

This is the first book in the Blue Bloods series by Melissa De La Cruz.

Book Blurb:

Within New York City’s most elite families, there lurks a secret society of celebrated Americans whose ancestors sailed on the Mayflower. They are the powerful and the wealthy—and in fact, they are not human. They are the Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires.

Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in at Duchesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapidated mansion. Schuyler is a loner—and happy that way.

But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler’s life changes dramatically. She has a mosaic of blue veins on her arms, and craves raw meat. The death of a popular girl from Duchesne is surrounded by a mystery that haunts her. And strangest off all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her.

Schuyler wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger?

This was a great read. :)

The concept of Blue Bloods is one that I have not read before and that makes it fascinating to me. :)

Normally I have a book figured out fairly quickly - but this one kept me on my toes for the first 100 pages. I had ideas - but then I was blown away by the full story of where the vampires came from. :)

The only draw back I had to this book was all the brand name dropping. She was wearing this pair of jeans or this shirt or those shoes. It was a bit annoying after a while. But then after about 100 pages or so that thinned out a little bit. :)

I am very interested in finding out how this story ends. I have the 2nd book on the tbr shelf and look forward to reading it and obtaining the others in this series. :)

I give Blue Bloods 5 out of 5 stars. :)

Hi Michelle!

So glad you enjoyed this series, I love the good and the bad, light and dark concepts. Fallen angels and rebirth/renewal throughout time.

I've read the first three books and now I'm patiently waiting for The Van Alen Legacy, should start showing up in book stores soon!

You sure annoyed it more than me, I found it ok, a bit dragged out, I still wanna hear more, but not enough to buy it

I've heard a lot of great things about this series. The covers are also gorgeous. I agree though that brand name dropping can be very annoying.

I'm glad you enjoyed this one Michelle. Thanks for the great review and recommendation!!

Mandi,

I look forward to your review. :)

Dottie,

I was fascinated by the Mayflower connection and how they were trying to start fresh in a safe place.

Tynga,

Thank you. :)

B,

I can understand that. You are so fortunate with the library you have - maybe they will get them in soon and you can check them out. :)

VFG,

How are you? I love the covers too. Am I the only one - or do most of you like the trend with the new book covers having 'real' people on them instead of the 'painted' images? I think the older covers are cheesy compared to the new ones. :)

Thanks for stopping by everyone.
