Review: Shift

This is the 5th book in the Werecats series by Rachel Vincent.

Book Blurb:

Being the first female werecat enforcer isn't easy. Scars accumulate, but I'm stronger in so many ways.

As for my personal life? It's complicated. Choices worth making always are. Ever since my brother's death and my father's impeachment, it's all I can do to prevent more blood from spilling. Now our Pride is under attack by a flight of vicious thunderbirds. And making peace with our new enemies may be the only way to get the best of our old foe.

With the body count rising and treachery everywhere, my instincts tell me to look before I leap. But sometimes a leap of faith is the only real option..

I love this series. :)

Faythe has been through a lot in a very short span of time. She reluctantly left school and returned to her Pride - assumed the role of Enforcer for her Alpha father - and has not slowed since.

Things are headed for an all out civil war among the werecats - if Calvin Malone can't be stopped. Calvin is determined to bring down Faythe's Pride and her Alpha father - and take the tabbies for himself - and he will lie, cheat, steal and kill to get his way.

When Calvin's treachery brings the thunderbirds to
their door Faythe is once again thrust into a precarious situation. Bring the thunderbirds proof of her Pride's innocence or lose and innocent Faythe holds dear.

Along the way Faythe's personal life takes a nose dive when both Marc and Jace are sent to help Faythe in her endeavors. Having those two toms in such close quarters proves almost as dangerous as the proof gathering.

Shift is an awesome read and I give this installment of the Werecat series 5 out of 5 stars.

I am sad to note that the next installment - Alp
ha, due out in October of this year - will be the last in this great series.

Hi Michelle:

Great review! I like Rachel Vincent's werecat series as well, I've only had time to read the first 3 but would love to catch up at some point.

Sounds like things have really gotten dicey for Faythe since I last left her. ;)

Thanx for sharing!

Hi Michelle,
Didn't read much in case I would spoil it for me, but I saw you loved it so that is good

I literally *just* finished reading this book!

**SPOILERS**

I can't decide between Jace and Marc. I really, really can't! I like them both, and it breaks my heart that whoever Faythe doesn't choose, will have to leave... and both of them are freakin orphans!!
I don't know how Kaci will take Faythe/Jace. I sort of thought that in 'Alpha' the story will leap ahead a few years and reveal a Jace/Kaci pairing - but that would suck for both of them, because they'd both know that he 'settled'. URGH! This love triangle is doing my head in!

Lea,

Thank you. :) Things have certainly gotten dicey in these last few books. I don't see how Faythe keeps getting herself out of the messes. LOL

B,

Now you know I try not to have spoilers in my reviews. :) I did love it - can't wait for your review.

Danielle,

****Spoiler Alert****

I think as far as the Jace/Marc thing goes that one of them is going to get killed. I don't want that to happen because that would be the easy way out - Faythe would not have to make a decision - and I want her to make a decision. I hope I am wrong - I hope neither gets killed - but if I remember correctly - Ms. Vincent said on her blog that some of the characters were not going to make it in Alpha.

Maybe Ms. Vincent can do an epilogue that shows everyone a few years in the future - that would wrap things up nicely.

I totally agree about not wanting Jace or Marc to die in 'Alpha'. That would be WAY too easy. And quite frankly, I kind of want Vincent to put Faythe through the emotional ringer - 'man' up and make a decision!

It always bugged me that when she was on trial for infecting her human boyfriend, Faythe was sort of indignant at being accused. And she never came across as being genuinely sorry. At least if she has to make a decision about this she'll be forced to take action and take blame for her choices.

Oh 'Alpha' is so far away!
