Review: Wraith

This is the first book in the Zoe Martinique series by Phaedra Weldon.

Book Blurb:

Zoe Martinique was just your average, single female, past 25, looking for love and/or exciting job opportunities. Until life handed her the dubious ability to travel outside of her body at will - which she turned into a career, hiring herself out as a literal spook. Industrial espionage, domestic surveillance, you name it - when she's traveling she can see but can't be seen...

Then one night things get out of hand while she is out-of-body: Zoe witnesses a murder. What's worse, the killer is also a Traveler - and he most definitely not only sees her, but tries to pursue her.

To save herself, Zoe must somehow guide the very handsome detective assigned to the case to the truth without revealing herself. And with the help of her semi-psychic mom, a pair of gay ghosts, and her best friend (a Goth techno witch), she also has to figure out exactly who - and what - the murderer is, before he finds and puts an end to her traveling - permanently.

I enjoyed this book. :)

Zoe Martinique has an amazing ability to travel outside of her body. She uses this ability to make a living. With today's technology and a best friend that knows the ins and outs of the internet - Zoe is able to take on any job she chooses, earn a pretty hefty fee - and leave no paper trail at all. No one knows who she is - and more importantly - no one knows about her ability.

When Zoe witnesses a murder she is torn - and scared out of her mind. How can she help solve this crime without giving away her secret? And how can she protect herself from becoming the next victim?

Wraith is a pretty good read. Zoe is hard headed and determined to get things done - not stopping to think of her own safety. The secondary characters are great and very important to the story.

I did run into a few spots that stalled - but the stalls did not last long and I was able to move forward with the story.

I give Wraith 3 out of 5 stars and I have the next book in this series - Spectre - on the tbr shelf.

Wraith sounds like a really good Urban Fantasy novel Michelle. I like it when I enjoy the first book in a series and have the others waiting on the shelf to be read. That way there is no "waiting" involved. *g*

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Lol, a pair of gay ghosts, and a techno goth witch. Sounds like a great mix of people in it

I just received this one from PBS, I'm looking forward to it. I think with the first novel in a series, it's rare to hit one out of the ball park with all the setup involved for world building. Still sounds like an fun read. Thanks!
