ARC Review: Shaedes of Gray by Amanda Bonilla

Shaedes of Gray is the first book in the Shaede Assassin series by Amanda Bonilla and an Urban Fantasy from Signet Eclipse.

Book Blurb:

Darian has lived alone for almost a century in the shadows of the night.  Made and abandoned by her former love, Darian is the last of her kind - an immortal Shaede who can slip into darkness as easily as breathing.  With no one else to rely on, she has taught herself how to survive, using her unique skills to become a deadly assassin.

Darian finds herself struggling to keep her employer, Tyler, at arms length, especially since his seductive smile makes her want to break her rules about love.  The work he offers is necessary to protect the innocent - and a welcome distraction.  But when Darian’s next mark turns out to be Xander Peck, King of the Shaede Nation, her whole worldview is thrown into question.  Darian begins to wonder if she has taken on more than her conscience will allow, but a good assassin never leaves a job unfinished...

My thoughts:

One hundred years ago Darian was the wife of a prominent man who was unable to come to terms with his own desires and took his anger out on her.  When she came to the attention of a being - not human, her whole world changed.

Darian was made into an immortal Shaede and for the first time in her young life - she felt complete.

Loved.

Cherished.

Until her ‘maker’ left her without telling her just exactly what she was - or what she was capable of doing.

Left to her own devices, Darian became an assassin. Never killing an innocent - but easily ending the life of the corrupt.

Thinking that she is the last of her kind, Darian is unnerved when she finds others like herself.  And angry beyond words when she becomes a pawn in an ages old disagreement that could end in a full blown war...

Shaedes of Gray is the debut novel in the Shaede Assassin series by Amanda Bonilla and I loved it.

Darian is tough - a little cocky (okay, a lot cocky) - but she is also vulnerable.  She’s been hurt and is determined never to let anyone close enough to do it again.

I’m looking forward to the sequel, Blood Before Sunrise, coming July 2012.

I give Shaedes of Gray 5 out of 5 stars.
