My Week in Review: 2/10/18-2/17/18

I was all over the place last week - as far as book selections go.  I am pleased to say that I seem to be getting back in my reading groove.  :)  Here are the books I'd like to share with you today.

Dead Onset by T W Brown - 4 Stars ****

Today is the day that Evan Berry's life will change forever.

His days working construction are about to end; he is finally going to be a high school music teacher. Stephanie, his bride-to-be even has a surprise planned for him when he gets home from work that first night.

None of that matters.

For several days, the news has been hinting at reports of a strange illness that appears to be global. Unfortunately, this is no regular sickness. The dead are returning to life and attacking the living. Evan is at his new job for less than ten minutes when he gets a call from Stephanie. There is a man in their house and he is trying to attack her.

Selena Grey has faced death and won. Freedom awaits so long as she can let go of the last thing that ties her to the island where the V Games were held. But despite the fact surviving has always been her priority, suddenly, she finds herself torn between her head and her heart.

Meanwhile, the Helsings are about to host a brand new game on the Isle of Lidelse where blood and money rule above all else. But when Selena finds out a devastating truth that puts her loyalty to the test, will she find the courage to go on? Or will she retreat from a life she never wanted, even if that means giving up the one person her heart beats for?

Black Blood by John Hennessy - 4 Stars ****

Lies. Magic. War. Welcome to Abby’s world.

Beneath the frozen wasteland of the United States lives apocalypse survivor Aberdeen Dareday, whose life gets turned upside down when she mysteriously wakes up with black veins bulging under her skin. Forced to flee humanity’s last refuge because of her black blood, and the corpses left in its magical wake, Abby emerges to find an entirely different world. A world caught in a supernatural war, where vampires and werewolves are all too real.

After Ash, a resilient young man who shares her newfound abilities, rescues Abby from certain death at the hands of scientists, he takes her on a perilous journey to unlock their magical powers. But Abby is different from other witches: her blood talks to her, and acts as a sixth sense, a unique gift that also attracts many enemies seeking to wield her as a weapon. Hunted by vampires, werebeasts, and scientists, Abby must learn to control her blood if she’s to defeat those who will stop at nothing to possess it, for the fate of the war may rest within her magic veins.

Oracle by James David Victor - 4 Stars ****

I hate fire. It nearly destroyed me. Now, my only chance at survival is a fire-breathing dragon shapeshifter.

Davie is a normal girl trying to live a normal life. Except that she can see the future and has visions that make her seem crazy. When she meets a man who immediately seems too perfect to be real, her quest for a normal life quickly ends. She soon learns the world is full of mythical creatures including shapeshifting dragons, dwarves, and mystical oracles. Can Davie adapt to the new world that has dropped her into the middle of a mythical war that could tear the world apart?

Shadow Bound by McKenzie Hunter & Gena D Lutz
3 Stars ***

Two women. Two lives. One goal—survive.

Aspen and Emma live on the cusp of two worlds. One side is a soul-sucking drag filled with micro-managing bosses and insomnia. On the other, life unfolds on a razor's edge as they discover they are more than what they seem, marked by the Fae and bound to the Shadows.

Abducted to the Shadows and turned into unwilling pawns of the Fae’s creation, they are forced to participate in the Wild Hunt. In this deadly world, few can be trusted, including charismatic Liam, Prince of the Shadows and Gerard, the mysterious Wild Hunt trainer, who claim they want to end it. Forced to trust the enemy, they must choose: work together and possibly end the Hunt forever—or each play her own game of survival and win at all costs.

That's a wrap of my week.  I am excited to have a new installment of one of my favorite series for next week.  I hope you are reading something wonderful.

As always, thank you for stopping by.
