My Week in Review: 10/13/18-10/20/18

I can't get over how fast this year has flown.  The holidays are right around the corner and that is my favorite time of year.  This year is going to be super exciting because of the grandbaby.  :)

This weeks theme: Demons

Demon's Fever by T. F. Walsh - 4 Stars ****

After losing her dishwasher job, Cary Stone finds herself broke and homeless. And, oh yeah, she's also a half-demon completely alone in the world. Awesome. So when she's offered a job to hunt demons at Argos Inc., she jumps at the chance to get a new lease on life. But in order to keep the job, she has to pass a series of tests.

Failing isn't an option as Cary has to do whatever it takes to nail this opportunity. And then there is the hotshot demon hunter that is sexy motivation to reach her goal... but if he knew she what she really was, he'd want her dead. Can things get any worse?

Levi Walker is pissed off. Seriously. After being the best demon hunter at Argos Inc. since forever, they want to screw him by not paying him for the jobs? Nope, Levi decides it's time to go. Or at least it was until a hunt he's on spins wildly out of control and causes a catastrophic loss...and everyone at Argos blames Levi. Now faced with being sued for the damage, Levi begins pursuing the evidence to clear his name. Jumping right into the fray, Levi soon finds himself in mortal danger. But he's a fighter who'll battle until the end...which may come sooner rather than later, now that he's met a beautiful and mysterious hunter at Argos and can barely keep his mind on the job.

Will Levi stay alive long enough to find the proof to clear his name and leave Argos for good or will Cary prove to be the sexy and dangerous distraction that he just can't ignore?

Never Save a Demon by J. D. Brown - 4 Stars ****

The rules for demon slaying are simple.
Rule #1: Never save a demon’s life.
… Oops.

Lyn Conway is a hot mess. She’s past due on her rent, can’t get clients to take her paranormal investigations business seriously, and … Oh yeah, she’s a demon hunter who broke the ultimate rule. She didn’t mean to save a demon’s life. She thought she was saving a cute guy from a horrific attack. But now?

Sam. Won’t. Die.

That is, he won’t die until she does.

Being bound to a gorgeous demon isn’t all that bad, until women who look suspiciously similar to Lyn start dropping dead with a demonic seal carved into their flesh. The tables have turned. The hunter is being hunted. Fortunately, Lyn lives with her number one suspect.

City of Demons by Debbie Cassidy - 4 Stars ****

If Buffy and Angel could have banged without him going all evil, then we would have had Wilomena Bastion.

Dragons suck, like literally suck the life out of you if you let them. Trick is not to look them directly in the eyes, like ever. So, the day Wila finds herself staring into the most dangerous Draconi’s pretty, emerald peepers, she knows she’s royally fucked.

No one said saving a bunch of kids from being served up as treats to the dragon liege was going to be easy. Options are limited—immediate execution or servitude, and Wila prefers to have her head remain firmly on her shoulders.

Now, the self-professed dark avenger must work to bring down a resistance of demons hell-bent on making life difficult for the dragon liege. And, if that wasn’t bad enough, her new position comes with a partner, the dragon liege’s favoured demon enforcer; a creature of fire, fury and washboard abs who—let’s face it—is just gonna cramp her style.

With the help of a ghostly receptionist, a talking dog and the thing that lives in the basement, Wila will be forced to take on a most dangerous task. It looks like some serious brooding is on the menu, because for the first time in forever, Wila isn’t sure she’s up to the job.

A city filled with monsters needs a woman who can kick ass, and Wilomena Bastion is just the gal for the job.

Demons at Deadnight by A & E Kirk - 3 Stars ***

For seventeen-year-old Aurora Lahey, survival is a lifestyle.

DEMONIC DESTINY
Aurora has the crappiest superpower on the planet. And it’s just unleashed a hit squad from hell. Demons are on the hunt, salivating to carve her carcass into confetti.

CHARISMATIC KILLERS
The Hex Boys—mysterious, hunky, and notorious for their trails of destruction—have the answers Aurora needs to survive. But their overload of deadly secrets and suspicious motives makes trusting them a potentially fatal move.

LETHAL ALLIES
The battle to save her family, herself, and stop demonic domination may cost Aurora everything worth living for, and force her to reveal her own dark secrets. But no worries. She needs the Hex Boys to pull this off, and, chances are, teaming up with these guys will get her killed anyway.

A Demon's Blade by C.C. English-Rose - 3 Stars ***

Forged in flames, anointed in blood... A Demon's Blade.

When Mona was six years old, she witnessed the death of her mother… by a Demon. Mona was told what she saw was impossible, but she always knew the truth, nothing would convince her otherwise; not even pesky little things like doctors or psychologists.

It’s been twelve years, eight foster homes, five schools and two crappy part-time jobs since then, but now the monsters are back, and they’re everywhere.

Suddenly Mona finds herself in a world which she never knew existed and hunted by a creature like the one plaguing her nightmares.

Luckily, Mona isn’t alone. But will the help of her new friends be enough to save her?

That's a wrap on my week of reading.  I hope you are reading something great.

As always, thanks for stopping by.
