We have had a good deal of rain in Georgia lately and though it has helped with the pollen, I feel like I'm in need of fins and flippers. But honestly, for me, nothing is better than curling up with a good book and listening to the rain. :)
Here are the books I want to share with you today:
Cataclysm: V Plague, Book 18 by Dirk Patton - 5 Stars *****
A Russian agent threatens John's new family as Barinov's
plans are revealed.
Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa - 4 Stars ****
Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that
stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been
collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors
she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then
will the beads disappear.
Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the
Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want … at
a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects.
But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment.
Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin
on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At
first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more.
For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of
rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae
warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a
glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers
among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken.
If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need
the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic
creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.
Bad Impression by Ware Wilkins - 4 Stars ****
Paying off the tooth fairy was supposed to make Sadie's life
easier. Uh huh.
There's Ingrid, her psychic roommate pregnant with a magic
baby. There's also Abe, the former sheriff and dude of Sadie's dreams, now a
scarred werewolf with mood swings that come with claws and teeth. And while
navigating those two, Sadie's also got Benji... bisexual, enigmatic, and
dangerously appealing.
But Sadie's about to realize her relationship woes pale in
comparison to the big bad that's in town. Everyone's on the lookout for
hunters, and the tension has Sadie jonesing for a teeth fix. She's managed to
stay sober of the bone magic, but when cats turn up dead and vampire queens are
calling in favors, the appeal of using magic becomes too hard to resist. With
too much to lose, Sadie's going to have to decide whether her power can help
save her friends and Grimloch, or if using it will make her bite it in a big
way.
Greed by Katie May - 4 Stars ****
For hundreds of years, Nightmares have ruled the world.
Descended from the Seven Deadly Sins, these supernatural
creatures have enslaved and tortured the human race.
I have lived my entire life fighting back against the
monsters that have plagued this world. A deadly assassin and a member of the
resistance, I only have one motto: kill or be killed.
When The Damning commences - a fight to the death against
the world's most brutal serial killers, assassins, and torturers - a twist of
fate finds me as one of the competitors. Despite my initial reluctance, I find
myself eagerly participating.
But what I didn't count on, however, were the seven
princes:
Lupe, a Shifter descended from Wrath.
Devlin, a Genie descended from Greed.
Jax, a Vampire descended from Gluttony.
Killian, an Incubus descended from Lust.
Ryland, a Shadow descended from Pride.
Sebastian, a Mage descended from Sloth.
And,
Dair, a Mermaid descended from Envy.
Our love could never be. I'm an assassin, and they are my
targets.
But who ever said I needed to follow the rules? If only I
can survive The Damning...
Carnal by Victoria Danann - 3 Stars ***
The rogue angel, Kellareal, stopped the genocide of a
hundred and forty three human/animal hybrids who'd been genetically engineered
as an experiment. Generations had spent their entire lives imprisoned and used
as research subjects. Against orders, he spirited them away to another world.
In a twist of irony, they were given the job of protecting humans from the
result of their own hybrid experiment gone very, very wrong.
When Rosie Storm asked Kellareal for a place to hide and
teach her boyfriend a lesson, she thought she was getting a few weeks of
tantrum-fueled asylum. The last thing she was expecting was to be the
accidental architect of a war. Or to meet someone like Carnal.
