This weeks' reads took me way back - I mean to my teenage years and up through my early 20's - this was my genre of choice. It is funny how things have evolved over time from this genre to zombies. LOL
This weeks' theme: Men in Kilts - AKA Historical Romance
The MacKinnon's Bride by Tanya Anne Crosby - 4 Stars ****
When laird Iain MacKinnon's young son is captured by the
English, the fierce Scottish chieftain retaliates in kind, capturing the
daughter of his enemy to bargain for his boy's return. Fiercely loyal to kin,
Iain never imagines a father can deny his child--or that he will become Page
FitzSimon's savior.
"Keep her, or kill her!" FitzSimon proclaims when
Iain forces his hand. What can a good lad do, but take the lass home. Even as
Page blames her reluctant champion for welching on a bargain with her father,
she suspects the truth... the shadows hold secrets... and danger.
Now only love
can save MacKinnon's fiery new bride.
Loki by Keira Montclair - 4 Stars ****
A warrior with a haunted past and the lass who vows to love
him forever.
Loki Grant’s first memories are of living in a crate behind
an inn in Ayr, struggling to survive. Clan Grant saved him from his lonely
existence and took him in as one of their own. But though the Highlands have
become his home and he loves his adopted parents, Brodie and Celestina, Loki
feels lost. Part of him is still that scrappy wee lad who relied on his wits to
survive the streets, and he is not sure he belongs. The feistiest and most
beautiful lass in the clan, Arabella, steals his heart, but when her father
resists the match because Loki is not of clan blood, Loki decides to confront
his past. He wishes to satisfy Bella’s father by discovering his parentage, but
he also hopes his quest will help him understand his purpose.
As far as Arabella is concerned, Loki Grant is the wiliest,
brawest, and most handsome warrior in existence. She is determined to have him
as her husband regardless of what her father thinks. So when Loki’s search for
his sire leads him into trouble, she rushes headlong after him.
Together, Loki and Arabella must discover the dark secrets
of Loki’s origins, for only by confronting the past can they hope for a bright
future together.
Lady Danger by Glynnis Campbell - 3 Stars ***
The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch...Damsels in shining
armor...riding to the rescue! Deirdre, Helena, and Miriel, three kick-arse
Scots wenches known as The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch, aren’t about to become
any man’s chattel, until they meet heroes who are strong enough to tame their
wild ways and worthy enough to win their wayward hearts.
Born to the blade and raised to fear no one, Deirdre of
Rivenloch never shies away from a fight and never turns her back on a threat to
her land or her family. But she’s never met a man like Sir Pagan Cameliard, the
bold and powerful knight who comes at the king’s command to make a marriage
alliance with Rivenloch. To save her younger sister, Deirdre tricks Pagan into
marrying her instead, and now she faces a new kind of enemy who crosses swords
with her by day and lays siege to her heart by night.
Highland Barbarian by Ruth Ryan Langan - 3 Stars ***
Meredith MacAlpin, Scottish noblewoman, is kidnapped at the
altar by infamous Highland Barbarian, Brice Campbell, and spirited away to his
fortress in the Highlands. It is rumored that he is the one who has killed her
people in a series of raids.
Brice Campbell is desperate to prove his innocence and bring
peace to his people, but when he kills the wrong man, his enemy vows revenge.
Can enemies become lovers? Is love strong enough to defy
even death?
The Beauty Bride by Claire Delacroix - 3 Stars ***
More cherished than gold are the Jewels of Kinfairlie, and
only the worthiest may fight for their love...The Laird of Kinfairlie has
unmarried sisters, each a gem in her own right. And he has no choice but to see
them all wed in haste.
Lady Madeline’s heart is not for sale...especially not to a
notorious outlaw like Rhys FitzHenry. Yet Madeline’s hand has been sold, to
none other than this battle-weary warrior with a price on his head. A more
dutiful maiden might cede to the Laird’s command and meekly accept her fate,
but Madeline has never been obedient. She decides to run away, though she never
dreams that Rhys will pursue her. She does not expect this taciturn man to woo
her with fanciful stories, much less that each of his enthralling tales will
reveal a scar upon his shielded soul. She never imagines that a man like Rhys
could imperil her own heart while revealing so little of his own feelings. When
Rhys’s past threatens his future, Madeline takes a leap of faith. She dares to
believe him innocent
— and risks her own life to pursue a passion more priceless
than the rarest gem.
That wraps up my walk down memory lane. I hope you see something you'd like to read. :)
As always, thank you for stopping by.
