My Week in Review: 9/29/18-10/6/18

I was super pleased with the books I chose this week and look forward to reading more in these series.

This weeks theme: Witches

Aimless Witch by Shannon Mayer - 4 Stars ****

“My name is Pamela, and I am a witch who has no equal.”

Or so I thought.

It has been three years since the Destroyer sundered our world. The land is no longer whole, but broken into pieces, most technology gone, and the continents shattered into an unrecognizable place.

New monsters have risen from the depths, adding danger on top of danger. Through it all the humans fight to survive as they compete not only with the supernaturals for food and resources, but their own kind as well.

And me? The caravans of humans I pass, they look to me to save them.

Only I am not the witch I once was. Bound by those who fear my power and my bloodline, I’m lucky if I can light a match with my magic, never mind protect anyone but myself.

Now, the darkness in me rises, offering me all that I want. Freedom from the chains I wear, and the power to make everything right. But if I embrace the darkness I will face a cost I could never have imagined…

Witch Slapped by Dakota Cassidy - 4 Stars ****

What's a girl to do when she's a broke, shunned ex-witch with a very tiny, very hungry bat familiar named Belfry to feed?

Hello. My name is Stevie Cartwright, and I've been witchless for thirty days.

If only there was a support group for down-on-their-luck ex-witches who've had their powers slapped right out of them (literally). Just as I was licking my wounds after returning to my hometown of Ebenezer Falls, WA, and navigating my suddenly non-magical existence with the help of my familiar, the only friend I have left in the world—things got sticky.

Enter an ex-spy and newly departed spirit named Winterbottom, who's infiltrated my life with his sexy British accent and a couple of requests...

Thanks to Belfry's successful attempt to use me as a human antenna to the afterlife, I can somehow hear Win. I should be ecstatic; helping departed souls used to be my witch specialty. It's like I got the teensiest piece of my old life back. Except Win's dropped me right at a dead woman's feet.

Madam Zoltar, the town's beloved fake medium, has been murdered, and Win wants me to catch the killer.

My old life won't be worth much if it gets me whacked before my new life has barely begun--and that seems to be exactly what the killer has planned!

Never cross a Craft witch...

Christi Craft is the name and being witchy is my game!

I own a little shop in rural Salem, filled with all manner of fun things; priceless heirlooms, cursed artifacts, bath bombs, Spills (magically spelled pills, if you get my drift). You know, harmless things.

However, Milo James, a sexy AF Warlock Warden, disagrees. He's always giving me citations and fines for selling my cursed artifacts to humans who don't know any better. I’ve known him most of my life, and he sees me as a little sister – at least, that’s how he treats me. Dang it…

If that's not enough, Orrin, my Incubus lover, suddenly wants more from me than just an occasional roll in the sheets. On top of that, I have to deal with this poltergeist I unknowingly acquired with a recent purchase. He's demanding I solve his murder. What he doesn't seem to grasp is that I suck at being a witch.

But things aren't what they seem when it comes to this spirit, and I'm not sure I can help him on my own. With or without my power.

Black Spells and Twisted Souls by Cece Rose - 3 Stars ***

Kayla Harlow is an unlucky witch.

A dead boss, a demonic kitty in her bathtub, and a smoking hot detective… If only he wasn’t trying to pin her for the murder.

Between a mysterious fae prince with no sense of modesty or boundaries showing up, having to call a vengeance spirit, and more demons than she ever expected or wanted to meet appearing in her living room, an iced latte spilled all over her new dress is suddenly the least of her worries.

When white magic won’t save her, and black magic will taint her soul, what’s a witch to do?

The Day the Witch Stood Still by Ruby Raine - 3 Stars ***

It's not every day an old flame reappears in your life come to tell you someone you loved has been murdered—for being a witch—and that you're next on the kill list—because you're a witch too!
These books are not recommended for younger readers and these characters really like four letter words. It's a little bit cozy mystery, a little bit paranormal romance, a little bit urban fantasy, and a whole lot of supernatural trouble.

All Dani Harper wanted was a vacation in the one place she could still call home.
After tragedy strikes and she loses her mother, Dani needs a dose of the next best thing—her Aunt Marni, her three never seemingly aging Siamese cats, some much needed summer sun, and endless moonlight and mojitos under the bright starry island sky each night.

What she got, was thrown into the middle of two murder investigations, an old flame—in the form of the sexy local police chief—telling her the supernatural not only exists, but that she's a witch with a price on her head. He offers protection from this supernatural hitman, but Dani soon finds out its her heart and soul that needs the protection most because she's falling—again—for Galen Wilde, and he's got a supernatural secret of his own.

I really enjoyed these reads, I hope you see something you'd like to try.

As always, thank you for stopping by.

~Michelle
