My Week in Review: 12/22/18-12/29/18

This post will be for two (2) weeks worth of reading.  I want to end my posts with all the books I've read for this year.  :)

The First Weeks Theme: Daughters

Hell Can Wait by Celia Kyle - 4 Stars ****

I’m Caith Morningstar: bar owner, leather wearer, shoe worshipper, werewolf, Orlando’s resident ass kicker and… Satan’s niece.

The dead are rising in the land of that famous mouse and apparently, I’m the one who has to deal with the mess. Forget movie night with my kid. I have to kill ghouls who have decided to make some new undead friends in the morgue. Eh, killing things is easy. Generally. Oddly, these guys have glowing blue eyes and are way too good at butt kicking. Thankfully, I’m better. I manage to get rid of them, but one gets in a shot or two of his own, and now I’ve got a foot-long wound in my side that glows blue. Kinda like the ghoul.

Now the dick who made those ghouls is trying to turn me into his puppet, which so isn’t going to happen. My loved ones are trying to cure me, my angel mate is off on some super-secret mission for On High, and I’m stuck in bed “resting.” Not that I’m staying there.

I’d rather die than become anyone’s puppet, which might be my only option left. I just hope I can come back from the dead later.

Lucifer's Daughter by Kel Carpenter - 4 Stars ****

We’ve all heard the story of the Four Horsemen. Harbingers of the apocalypse. Destruction given form. Four of the sexiest—wait no—forget that. You get my point.

So imagine my surprise when I find out everything I’ve ever been told, is a lie.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. Let’s start from the beginning.

My name is Ruby Morningstar. I run a tattoo parlor in Portland with my bestfriend, have a pet raccoon, a crazy ex that stalks me, not to mention this one little thing… I’m a demon. Half-succubus, to be exact. For the last twenty-three years of my life, that’s the story I believed, but on the day a handsome stranger bails me out of jail my world is turned upside down, and suddenly I don’t know who I am anymore.

Because the Four Horsemen aren’t the bringers of the apocalypse.

I am.

Talk about never catching a break.

Daughter of Hades by Helen Scott - 3 Stars ***

Poppy never thought her life would get this crazy.

Sexy hellhound guards and being the future queen of the Underworld? She had been happy being a waitress and a freelance graphic designer in Chicago, hadn't she? What she was doesn't matter, that life is long gone now.

Before she can travel to the Underworld, she needs to find three judges that will preside over the souls of the dead. But who are they? Where are they? And how the hell is she supposed to find them?

As she battles agents of Hel at every turn and is confronted with mysterious new enemy Poppy is decidedly on edge. Will she find her judges in time or will her enemies get to them first?

Their Mate by Charlie Hart & Anastasia James - 3 Stars ***

After screwing up my life in the lower forty-eight, I take a chance on an old friend’s offer and head to Alaska for a fresh start.

A day in, I’m pitching a tent in the middle of nowhere.
I’ve been through plenty— being alone in the wilderness isn’t the scariest thing I’ve faced.
But um. These wolves who’ve hunted me down?
They’re kinda freaking me out.

They say I’m their remedy— their mate. That I can’t leave.
I thought what we shared was nothing but a romp in the woods.
Turns out I’m coming face-to-face with my destiny.

Freyja's Daughter by Rachel Pudelek - 3 Stars ***

Meet Faline. Bounty-Hunter. Huldra. Wild Woman.

Well behaved women seldom make history, but they still end up as the monsters of folklore.
Faline Frey is a bounty-hunter, more comfortable relying on perp files and handcuffs than using her huldra powers to take down a suspect. No sense in catching the unwanted attention of her local Hunter authority, a group of holy soldiers born to police the supernatural and keep Wild Women—huldras, mermaids, succubi, rusalki and harpies—in check.

All that changes the night she heads out for a date, hoping to get lucky. Instead, she gets screwed.

Now her sister is missing, along with Wild Women from all over the country. The Hunters are on her tail and the one person offering to help is her ex-lover, Officer Marcus Garcia, who has just enough ties to the supernatural world. To unite her enemies against their common foe, Faline will need to convince the Wild Women to do the one thing she fears most—exhume their power buried deep beneath centuries of oppression. That is, if she can keep them from killing each other.

The Second Weeks Theme: Were's

Go Fetch by Shelly Laurenston - 4 Stars ****

Conall Víga-Feilan, direct descendent of Viking shifters, never thought that he'd meet a female strong enough to be his mate. He especially didn't think that a short, viper-tongued human would ever fit the bill.

But Miki Kendrick isn't some average human. With an IQ off the charts and a special skill with weapons of all kinds, Miki brings the big blond pooch to his knees—and keeps him there. Miki's way too smart to ever believe in love, and she knows that a guy like Conall could only want one thing from her. But with the Pack's enemies on her tail and a few days stuck alone with the one man who makes her absolutely wild, Miki is about to discover how persistent one Viking wolf can be.

Wolf and Punishment by Theodora Taylor - 4 Stars ****

Two shifters from opposite sides of the tracks. Two hot nights neither of them can forget....

The truth is, Mag Lonewolf had no business going after a girl like Janelle. She was too classy, too gentle, too beautiful for a bad wolf like him. But their attraction was explosive, and now he can't stay away...even though they went down in a blaze of lies and regrets.

Three years later he storms back into her life, determined to punish the she-wolf who got away for her crimes against his heart. But can he put out their flame without getting burnt again?

Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright - 4 Stars ****

When female wolf shifter Taryn Warner first encounters Trey Coleman, an alpha male wolf shifter with a dangerous reputation, she’s determined to resist his charms. After all, Trey—who was only fourteen when he defeated his own father in a duel, winning the right to be alpha of his pack—can’t have anything to offer the talented healer besides trouble, or so she thinks. Taryn finds herself drawn in by Trey’s forceful demeanor and arctic-blue eyes, and she eventually agrees to enter an uneasy alliance with him. If the two succeed in convincing their respective packs that they’ve chosen each other as mates, Trey will win valuable political allies, while Taryn will escape an odious arranged mating.

But there are a lot of potential pitfalls to this plan—including the very real possibility that the wolf shifters, overwhelmed by their growing attraction to each other, will be unable to maintain the clear heads needed to pull off the deception.

Real Men Howl by Celia Kyle & Marina Maddix - 4 Stars ****

Mason’s inner wolf will go crazy without her. Lucy thinks he’s already crazy. Werewolves aren’t real. Right?

Lucy Morgan left Ashtown, Georgia, ten years ago and planned to never return. Unfortunately, life didn’t get that memo. She’s back and now painful memories follow her everywhere. Until she meets him. Mason Blackwood is over six feet of sinfully gorgeous man who—for some reason—wants her. He also thinks he’s a werewolf so… yeah. He’s crazypants. But when he wants to have his wicked way with her, his sanity doesn’t seem all that important anymore.

Mason isn’t sure how much longer he can remain Alpha over the Blackwood pack. Without a mate to balance him, his wolf snatches more control every day. It won’t be long before he loses himself to the animal entirely. Then he meets Lucy—a sassy, curvaceous beauty who calms his beast with a smile. One sniff is enough to tell him she’s his mate, and nothing will keep them apart.

Not even the pack’s deadliest enemy who’s determined to kill Lucy before Mason can claim her.

Shield Wolf by Victoria Danann - 3 Stars ***

WHEN HE COULDN'T FIND HIS MATE IN THIS WORLD, THE WENT ELSEWHERE.

For hundreds of years the Scotia werewolves have lived in the highlands and enjoyed the protection of the Fae Monarchy, but the world is changing and the straining population compels the highlander werewolves to adapt. Or die. Or MOVE. When Liulf unexpectedly becomes a reluctant pack alpha, he begins an epic exodus.

There you have it.  :)  I hope you are reading something wonderful.

As always, thank you for stopping by.
