My Week in Review: 12/29/18-1/5/19

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.  :)  I am excited to think of all the books I have lined up for 2019.

Here are the books I want to share with you today:

Broken Blade by J C Daniels - 4 Stars ****

Kit Colbana: assassin, thief, investigator extraordinaire. Now broken.

She always expected her past to catch up with her but never like this. Haunted by nightmares and stripped of her identity, she’s retreated to Wolf Haven, the no-man’s land where she found refuge years before. But while she might want to hide away from the rest of the world, the rest of the world isn’t taking the hint.

Dragged kicking and screaming back into life, Kit is thrust head-first into an investigation surrounding the theft of an ancient relic…one that she wants nothing to do with. Her instincts tell her it’s a bad idea to just leave the relic lying about, but finding it might be just as bad.

Forced to face her nightmares, she uncovers hidden strength and comes face to face with one of the world’s original monsters.

If she survives the job, she won’t be the same…and neither will those closest to her.

Abbadon by Dirk Patton - 4 Stars ****

John is changing after becoming infected with the virus and faces an impossible decision. He must find a cure before everything he has fought for is lost, but a cure will mean sacrificing the opportunity to defeat the enemy.

Price of Magic by Stephanie Foxe - 3 Stars ***

All magic has a price, and I'm paying it.

My actions have attracted the kind of attention I've tried my whole life to avoid.

Now a dangerous vampire shows up at my house, uninvited, with an offer I can't refuse. He claims to have information on my mother, someone I've long believed to be dead.

But his price for that information means agreeing to work with him to discover the reason behind the NWR's attack.

I find myself getting drawn further and further into his games that risk all my secrets.

When my future goes up in flames, literally, that's only the beginning. Maybelle has gone missing, and Patrick hasn't been himself lately.

All the ghosts from my past (some I didn't even know about) are here to haunt me, and I'm quickly learning that I can't run from everything, no matter how hard I try.

Blood and Magic by Melissa Sercia - 4 Stars ****

Meet Gray. Dhampir. Undead. Cursed.

With supernatural powers and an insatiable need for blood, her existence is cursed.

When Gray awakens from a three-year spell induced coma, she not only discovers her lover as the one responsible, but that he has joined with a dangerous organization known as the Consilium to help them create a new breed of hybrid demons. Humans and Witches are being taken against their will, and fear is growing throughout the covens.

Gray never had a choice—forced to become a monster, the Dhampir. Yet after four hundred years, she still yearns for her humanity, like a long-lost echo from another life. She cannot allow the Consilium to do this to anyone else. With a renewed lust for vengeance, and a target on her back, Gray must use the one thing she swore never to in order to stop them—blood magic.

Armed with a magical pirate ship, an immortal monk, and a flower plucked from the Underworld, Gray will stop at nothing to start a war. Yet in her quest to track down her enemies, she uncovers a dark family secret that threatens to destroy the last shred of humanity she has left.

Ancient Magic by Linsey Hall - 3 Stars ***

In a world full of magic, hiding is the only way to survive.

I’m good at two things: finding treasure and killing demons. I’m a FireSoul, one of the unlucky few to inherit a piece of the dragon’s soul. On the surface, the perks are sweet—I can find and steal any type of magical treasure, including the powers of other supernaturals.

But it doesn’t come without a price—stealing powers requires that I kill, and others would destroy me if they discover what I am. So I lay low. Finding magical artifacts is the only ways to pay the bills, but it’s a dangerous job when I can’t use my magic.

When Aidan Merrick, the most powerful shifter in the city, hires me to find an ancient scroll, I don’t want to take the job. His immense power reminds me of a past I can’t remember, and he’s way too hot for my sanity. One thing is clear—the shifter is dangerous. I should avoid him, but I can’t. The scroll will reveal what I am. And if anyone finds out, I’m dead.

There ya have it, my first week of the new year.  :)  I hope 2019 has wonderful things in store for you and yours.

As always, thanks for stopping by.

~Michelle
